Klinsmann Advises Top Youth to Head Overseas

    Some MLS owners not happy.

Article rightfully calls out that USSF and MLS interests are not always aligned and youth development is certainly one of those areas.

One complexity - USSF has historically refused to enforce development compensation, a system under which a pro team that signs a player developed by another club (and original club doesn't charge the family for that development), has to compensate the developing club. With respect to MLS' teams, this absence of enforcement both helps (when the poach players from other youth clubs) and hinders (when overseas' clubs poach their own).

ussf could lobby to get child labor laws changed, i suppose, but children can't really sign a contract which would require that compensation. also, i guess they could SUGGEST a payment go from one club to another, but you're right. enforcing that seems difficult

One analyst concludes current child labor laws are not a real barrier:

However it is one thing to argue that in a law review article and another to argue it in court.

his first argument, that youth players are not employees of the club would be an argument AGAINST compensation, that doesn't seem like it would go far. his second argument, that play is not work so they're not employees, is the same as the first. they point out that USSF could say "pay them", but that's up to USSF and again enforcement wld be the difficult part.

all for compensation to clubs, and these folks are lawyers so hopefully they have more to their argument than what they have written. as was pointed out by one of the commenters, it would be interesting to see how MLB farm teams get compensated

Sure was fun to watch Oregon's own Rubin in his first US CAP. Only 18 years old; fun to see!

Each organizing league is free to set the rules of participation. MLB pays their employees at every level and the players are contractually obligated either by their guardians or at the age of majority (18). There is a system of waivers that releases the player form the obligations and ends a teams claim.

              Mls = aaa

How long before a Euro team buys one of the MLS teams to use it for a Farm team?

As for the MLS owners whining about loosing kids to the real professional leagues...put your money where your mouth is or STFU! If the kid is that good pay him enough to get him to sign and then send him over seas to develop. How hard is that to figure out? If the salary cap rules need to be adjusted then do that.

All of the bitching sounds rather childish when you consider it is what the rest of the world has been experiencing since they had players good enough to play at the highest levels of the game.

Lastly, if you were a player who had the talent to play in Europe why in the would you take a pay cut and retard your development? The MLS thinks you should be "loyal" when they toss you aside after a bad season or injury...F'n Hypocrites!

Not to mention the "Home Grown Players" I believe they must get the short end of the stick when it comes to being paid. Who set the contract price? is it based on where they would have been drafted... doesn't seem like a free market approach to setting the contract amount. I think the MLS is underpaying these Home Grown players. If you are a technical player... you have not business playing in the MLS... MLS is for physical borderline thug players with little technical ability or washed up overpaid Euros.

USSF is a joke. Their licenses are a joke. Its borderline like congress. They have zero clue how to do anything but they are happy to have their jobs and will BS their way through it.

MANCHESTER CITY now owns part of NYFC......

Klingsman is spot on. USSF is awful when it comes to figuring out how to make the best players and get the best coaches. They are making money....PERIOD.

The reason why the US team just got beat by a country the size of Idaho..........

USSF needs to clean house or step aside.
