5 years playing "premier" soccer, my kid is now a HS freshman most likely (in our town make V, lol) She still will play "premier" (winter and spring). does it matter in HS if she plays JV or V as a freshman? or does HS soccer matter? Seems to be "punt-N-pray" soccer.

Depends on how big your school is and how strong the program is. Bigger/stronger = less likely to make V, even more so if she isn't a standout player (sounds like she isn't). Good programs will only get 1-2 usually. Many are better off in JV anyway. They'll be more comfortable socially with more kids their own age and are much more likely to get good playing time. That builds confidence. If they're standouts in JV they will probably get pulled up during the season to bench warm for a injured player.
Plenty of so called "premier" parents assume their kid will automatically get on a V roster. They're the ones most shocked when freshman year rolls around. Even some players who play higher level club might not make the cut. With so many leagues a patch on the sleeve does not guarantee a top quality player

Unless she's a standout, she's much much better on JV. A lot of kids that get pulled up too early to V end up sitting around and watching other kids play, and it doesn't do anyone any good.

This thread comes up every year and is typically driven by frenzied parents of club players that are petrified that their kid will be on the JV or Frosh squad.
Bottom line is that the vast majority of 9th graders would struggle mightily in a varsity match. The physicality that 17 and 18 year old players bring is often way too much for 14 incoming 9th graders that are still in braces. Use the year to improve, gain confidence and encourage your daughter to do everything she can to be the very best player on the JV team. The rest will take of itself. Egos aside, no on improves by sitting on the end of the bench for the fall.
In our town, there have been a few players in recent years that have gone on to play at Division 1 schools. Ironically, all of them played on the JV squad as 9th graders. The coach had the philosophy that 95 pound 9th graders don't gain confidence by being run over by kids who outweigh them by 50 pounds
Don't sweat freshman year especially if you are at a bigger high school.
