Bad breath is the bigger issue, and it's all preventable by keeping hydrated.

“People tend to breathe through their mouth instead of through their nose while wearing a mask,” says Sclafani. “The mouth breathing is causing the dry mouth, which leads to a decrease in saliva — and saliva is what fights the bacteria and cleanses your teeth.”

He adds that “saliva is also what neutralizes acid in the mouth and helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease.”

People’s tendency to drink less water while masked up, as well as consume more coffee and alcohol during lockdown, have also added to the widespread dehydration he’s seeing.

So getting back to the thread title - soccer got another green light from CIAC for the fall yesterday. Games are on. Stay smart CT and we can have a fall season.

Don't count on it. All the CIAC did yesterday was a avoid a month of riots from frenzied parents. Practices start on Sept 11th. It will all be cancelled by then.

Most states around us aren't even going to school in the fall nevermind sports. Every local college D1, D2 and D3 are cancelled because despite their resources, they can't get a handle how to manage this.

Are you aware of the testing and contact tracing at the big schools? Power 5 athletes were all back at school. They were isolated and testing 2-3 times a week, they still couldn't make it work.

So here we are in a state where most of our school districts are very tight on budgets and we are moving full steam ahead with sports with no testing or plan other than the kids go on the "honor system" What could go wrong?

We all want to see the kids play this seems like a foolish decision on every level

Agree, the CIAC board are gym teachers who also voted to allow boys to compete as girls if they identify as such. Not exactly a brain trust. Schools will be back to virtual learning and sports canceled by the time the season is supposed to start. If that's not obvious to you, don't make any major decisions without someone sitting next to you while holding your hand.

Yes and maybe also heed what the director of the CDC had to say yesterday:
"For your country right now and for the war that we're in against Covid, I'm asking you to do four simple things: wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands and be smart about crowds," said Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Without following the recommendations, this could be "the worst fall, from a public health perspective, we've ever had," he said. In addition to taking measures to combat the pandemic, people should also get a flu vaccine.
              https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/13/healt...day/index.html

But please move forward with your plan to allow Football and Soccer in the fall with no masks/social distancing.

Traveling to and from home, and playing outside only would probably work for sports in the fall in CT. Unfortunately, once you put all these kids together in school it's game over for sports. This is why ALL in the colleges in the northeast have canceled fall sports. If the CIAC board wasn't so cowardly and dumb, they would have made the same decision. Now, they're just going to sit back and wait for health officials to tell them it's a no go. Which is guaranteed.

College sports and high school sports are apples and oranges.

20K kids from 50 states descending on a small town and all living together. Teams traveling across state lines to play. How does that compare at all to high school? It doesn't.

If kids are in school, full time or hybrid, in the fall, then sports will be on. If they aren't in school and it's all remote, then sports will be canceled. But let's be clear, the risk of transmission from soccer is remote. These kids will not be catching this from soccer. The same thing with lots of other fall sports. Football is the one outlier.

Redfield was speaking in general terms and some parts of the US are a cluster phuk and should ot open. Others are doing ok and can. Redfield, Fauci and others have said as much, that decisions should be made locally.

Masks are required in CT schools and buses and on the sidelines. So, there's that. Hybird learning/partially filled schools will also help. HS students don't live in dorms like college kids do. As another poster said there's been practices and games since late June, even for football, all fine with no attributable outbreaks.

It should also be noted that not all "colleges" cancelled but had little choice when others in the conferences dropped out or the conferences decided on the whole

Everyone needs to stop watching CNN and look up the actual facts about this virus.

In CT we are seeing no spread of the virus and kids have been playing sports like soccer, lacrosse, basketball and baseball since early June. Fans have been at these games as well.

This virus ravaged our state in March and April and based on the number of deaths in such a short period of time, a very large portion of our population had the virus already.

Chance of not dying from Covid19 in the US is 99.96%. LIVE YOUR LIFE PEOPLE!

So help me understand. We are told that masks are very important and students will be reqired to wear them all day while also maintaining social distancing of 6 feet. However, students who play football and soccer are exempted from these precautions and will be permitted to tackle, breathe/ cough/sweat/spit on each other duing practices and games? Is that the idea?
Do you think that makes any sense at all?
"I would love to be able to have all sports back," Fauci said. "But as a health official and a physician and a scientist, I have to say, right now, when you look at the country, we're not ready for that yet."

Kids aren’t getting sick and certainly not being hospitalized- coaches and teachers can wear the masks in the class and on the field. Protect the population at risk but don’t create further damage to our kids.

Oops, you don't understand the purpose of wearing a mask. Pay attention, this will be enlightening for you and it's important. Put your hands on both sides of your head and really try to concentrate.
                                Ok, here we go:
                                Who Should Wear A Mask?
                                General public

CDC recommends all people 2 years of age and older wear a mask in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
COVID-19 can be spread by people who do not have symptoms and do not know that they are infected. That’s why it’s important for everyone to wear masks in public settings and practice social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from other people).
While masks are strongly encouraged to reduce the spread of COVID-19, CDC recognizes there are specific instances when wearing a mask may not be feasible. In these instances, adaptations and alternatives should be considered whenever possible
How to wear a cloth face mask
The CDC recommends that you wear a cloth face mask when you're around people who don't live with you and in public settings when social distancing is difficult.

Here are a few pointers for putting on and taking off a cloth mask:

Wash or sanitize your hands before and after putting on and taking off your mask.
Place your mask over your mouth and nose.
Tie it behind your head or use ear loops and make sure it's snug.
Don't touch your mask while wearing it.
If you accidentally touch your mask, wash or sanitize your hands.
If your mask becomes wet or dirty, switch to a clean one. Put the used mask in a sealable bag until you can wash it.
Remove the mask by untying it or lifting off the ear loops without touching the front of the mask or your face.
Wash your hands immediately after removing your mask.
Regularly wash your mask with soap and water by hand or in the washing machine. It's fine to launder it with other clothes.
