Also how many are still even on the team? How man of the u11/u12/u13 benchers (ones who never starters and only played to give the starters a rest) stayed and took their places in the starting line ups?
I'm not the op you are responding to, but I will jump in.
My dd is playing FCP U14 ECNL currently. It's made up of about 60% (apprx.) of their old navy or 'A' team, that, for the most part played together since U11. There are a couple of 'b' team players that improved over the years and made the cut and a few that are now back down playing their age after playing 'up' for years.

There were never many 'benchers' on this particular team. Everyone got pretty significant playing time through the ages. They even mixed the A and B teams for spring and summer back at U12. So not many girls were full time benchers over the years. However, with ECNL they are playing 'starters' much more per game then before and there are now 'benchers' which is to be expected.

You parents are krazy. Come back and talk to us all in three years... tell us your thoughts on the difference between age 11 and age 14. It's light years different. The ballers your talking about right now, might not even be able to keep up with anyone.
Agreed. As someone looking back at the tourneys, matches, etc. played. It's all meaningless at the younger ages. Just enjoy the ride.

At this age there are very few data points available to compare WA and OR teams and those you do have vary over long periods of time and focus largely on summer tournaments where attendance is far from consistent. As for CA... how many CA teams has your U12 team actually played?? Endless opportunities, hardly.
If your U12 team is a top team they are playing out of state in WA and/or CA 3-4 times per year. Rainer Challenge, Crossfire Challenge, NWCL, FWRL, Mustang, Pleasanton Rage Girls Showcase, Vegas Cup, Denver Cup, President's Cup, Player's Showcase, the opportunities are endless.

As for the attendance aspect, that's a red herring. A team is a team is a team. If players are missing, it's still the same team. If the bench depth is weak or there is not a strong "B" team to pull players from, then you might not be on a top team at a top club.

You can't compare team "A" on their "best day" to team "B" on their "best day" as those "best days" only happen once in a lifetime and will never happen on the same day. You need to look at the longer term performance trend, which is why LastPlanet rankings use the last 13 months of game data (usually 40-60 games for most teams).

Kinda depends. You have to remember that half of the kids playing soccer at U10 aren't still playing at U15. For those kids and their parents, the time for success is now. Tournament trophies, league championships, and state cups are very important at U12 if it's your last year in the game. For the other half that actually play beyond middle school, only about 20% of those will actually play beyond HS. The dilemma is that at U12 you don't know if your DD is going to be one of the first 50% out, or the next 40%, or the final 10%. If you're a betting person, take your winnings early...

That's interesting, the top ranking (according to last planet) oregon team has not left the state of Oregon to play.

Wouldn't put to much in those rankings. Best team in the State is way down the list.

Leave the state at age this age?? There is absolutely no reason to leave the state at this age.

AGREED! Consolidating the leagues helps both OPL and OYSA. I am a parent in the OYSA and welcome the competition from the OPL teams. I don't care what the darn league is called, but want the best of the best in the top league, because it makes every single one of our dd's stronger and would give us a better chance to compete with out of state competition.

Parents need to have a unified long term approach and stop bickering over what team or league is better and be solution oriented. If we want progress, the parents need to demand it. How do you get the leagues consolidated?

Only top teams that want to push themselves need to leave the state.

Unfortunately, some teams don't like to travel for tournaments when they are already traveling for regular season games (ie. Bend, Medford, Eugene, etc.)

You never answered the question as to why move now if ECNL isn't until U14...not seeing the benefit, especially when many other teams are outperforming the "pre-ECNL" teams at the 02 and 01 age groups.

Unfortunately you are wrong. With a split league the top teams only have a couple truly competitive games in a season let alone playing teams that are significantly better that expose weaknesses and target areas for improvement! If we had more depth in OR I would likely agree with you, but it just ain't so! It's either travel, play up in age or play friendlies with the boys, take your pick?!

Enjoy it. Their size will be negated in two years or less. Then they will disappear into anonymity, like their predecessors. But they will be ready for the High School game.
