with 11 captains on the field you'd think flopping wouldn't be a problem.

Coaches try to manipulate the reffs trying to gain any advantage. Parents do the same. Why should players not use every avenue at their disposal to try and manipulate the reffs in the hopes of gaining some small advantage. And guess what, this does not work with every reff. It is just one of many tools that can be used to try and gain an advantage. But guess what, if the players see it working early in a game with a particular reff then you will see a ton more in that game.

So I watch the games and when a whistle blows, you think you know what the call will be, but I am frequently shocked, and think to myself “How can this be?”
What happens on the high school fields is not “the beautiful game”

Who exactly is proud of such behavior? Yes, in latin America, such theatrics are more common place and acceptable. But if you try that in England you will get run off of the field by players and fans (your own) alike.

Fans love it when they win from it and hate it when they lose from it. It will not go away unless something drastic gets done (ie take away the goal and let that result stand)

However CIAC does not want cards issued appropriately. 13 cards for a 16 game season gets you probation. 16 cards gets you booted from state tournament. Competitive games should have 4-5 cards between the teams. That would result in teams picking up 24 - 32 cards for a season (not all games are competitive). That would drop them from states. Reffs know this and do not appropriately issue cards because of this. CIAC rules have tied the reffs hands from managing games appropriately through cards. Not to mention, 3 cards and sit a games is too high, it should be 4. All of this hinges on reffs doing a decent job. Very few are able to. Officials are HORRIBLE (different topic).

Most of the responses on this diving topic revolves around the assumption that the player is trying to win a PK. Diving, embellished contact, going down easy, etc. happens all over the field. People get very upset about the offensive player “diving” trying to win a pk. Nobody gets mad about the defender who feels slight contact against their back and goes down trying to draw a free kick because they don’t want to get caught in possession. It is all the same. Reffs call soft fouls on attacking players being aggressive toward defenders who go down with light contact. Still a dive. People don’t go postal over it. But when you flip the script and the attackers go down with light contact it is unethical and a stain on the game. Why the double standard? A yellow will only be given in the box for simulation. Same play anywhere else is not even a free kick. It is reffs job to try and interpret what happened. Everyone is trying to manipulate the reff to gain an advantage. Some teams do it very well and gain an advantage. The game within the game. I salute those who have mastered the dark arts.
