If the goal of DA is to produce pro players there's no need for a large national system with 1000s of players who have no shot of that ever happening, nor will most want to. College is the goal for them. Going to an MLS system is best for the top talent and pro clubs. It's not good for the non MLS clubs amd their bottomlines..

One of the commentators aldo mentioned how few of the USA players are taking the college route. One player mentioned had already played in USL, but then committed to UNC. Commentator said he’d be “one and done”, meaning playing one year in college before moving to pros, which apparently is the pattern for top USA men today. Just thought it was interesting.
We must quit the insanity of constantly playing out of the back...even Pep’s teams struggle.
We refuse to play to our strengths. Incorporate more direct wide play utilizing fast outside mids. Speed is our friend.
We are nowhere near technical enough to be dicking around with the ball.
      Few American players are.
Tough, high pressure defending and speed up front and on flanks, fling the ball in the box.
      Simple game.

Did you actually see the game? Do you honestly expect the US to compete with Senegal on speed??

USA eliminated from U-17 WC after losing badly to Senegal 4-1 and Netherlands 4-0 and tieing Japan 0-0. Scored only one goal in three games. Absolutely no good things to say about this team. They had no consistent speed, technical ability, ability to read the game, or tenacity. The last one is the saddest because when the games started to turn against them, they just fell apart. Another major failure that US Soccer won’t own up to.

Busio has been a question mark. Has done nothing really at KC.

Reyna is the real disappointment. Supposed to be the next Pulisic. Looked good in his Borrusia debut and earlier NT duty, but looked awful this WC.

My guess is that the new coach Wink gets canned and 90% of this team disappears, but Busio and Reyna will get called onto the U-20 team in a couple years.

Sounds like players actually believed the USS propaganda on how great the DAP youth system is and how great they are as players. Then reality hit hard.

But but but the birth year mandate will make the US teams more competitive on the national stage.......

The USSF is a miserable organization that is killing the game in this country.

Even if you buy the theory behind it,.its only 3-4 years old in implementation. That's a process that will take years and years to come to fruition. Even if you believe it will make us more competitive internationally it's not something that needed to happen for 98% of youth players. The studs that might go pro one day stand out. They get opportunities to play up a year or two to advance their development. Changing age breaks was about item #36 on a list of things that were/are needed. #1? Blow up USSF.

yeah. it just totally sucks as a governing org. massive conflicts of interest, crappy management (at war with it's best product!), excessive payrolls, no clues.

it should devolve into regional organizations who can take care for themselves what works.

Well stated. And again, US soccer has no clue about its audience. The 98% of the kids that it wont affect will stop playing soccer after their senior year of high school. These kids, my kids included, would rather play with kids they know and are in their grade then kids that are in the same birth year as them. If one of my kids is part of that 2% and we as parents want to pursue national pools, then sure they would need to follow the birth year mandate. Otherwise stop the nonsense.

It should go back to how it was before - calendar year for DA, school year for everyone else. I don't think the change is the only thing contributing to declining youth soccer participation - high costs and travel is bigger - but it certainly isn't helping. If you've go less kids playing you want to make it as fun and appealing as possible. 99.8% will never go pro. Let them play with kids from their grade, have fun, learn the game, develop a some level of enthusiasm for it.

This birth year controversy really has no bearing on these male YNT players at this point since most of them are bypassing HS and college to go right into the pros, either USL/MLS or in Europe. Nobody is worried about birth year when you are playing with grown men.
