Not a fan of Thorns academy at all, but posts like yours are ignorant at best. Have fun in the 45 degree rain this weekend. We are enjoying the sunshine and playing some great opponents - just like the thorns kids are.

Thorns got a terrible draw. The bronze bracket at Clash at the Border would be tougher.
Shouldn't they have talked to the director ahead of time and gotten moved.

On the other hand, what the thorns academy has done in league and non showcase events this year is borderline malpractice. Beating up on your decimated former teams and sandbagging in Beaverton not only doesn't help you get better. It is unethical and immoral. And that's why so many people are rooting for thorns academy to fail (hint - we aren't all jealous).

It's about the player and how they respond to whatever the other team gives them.

Thorns Academy was losing players right & left. This year is all about marketing. Everyone wants to be on a winning team; no one wants to be on a losing team. Everyone quickly forgets or never cared how tough or easy the wins were. Academy 01 girls will come home as victors. The OR teams that got easy draws will come home to cheers and brag at school. "We won all our games", "scored a bunch of goals", "our back line only let up one fluke", etc. This goes over much better than "We lost most of our games, but played against some very highly ranked teams and had some moments of glory". Such is human nature.
Such is a showcase. Luckily, the college coaches don't care about all that and are evaluating individual players. The younger Thorns team will no doubt have colleges interested in some of them. Like it or not, some of them are great players. Ultimately, the same goes for all the other Oregon teams. Only a small percent of all these girls are going to get recruited to play college ball.
