ECNL still the best girls youth league in the country

Many people said ECNL would not survive once the DA started for girls. Alive and well as ECNL just announced their league for 2017-18 season

Those must be alternative Timbers facts. Thorns Academy is the real joke in Oregon.

More and much better clubs across the board than GDA. US Soccer will be lucky if GDA survives the summer.

You could add 5 more so-called "elite" pathways in Oregon and parents would line up to pay extra to get an "elite" title associated with their little Mallory. GDA, ECNL, GPS, PDP, RTC, ODP, etc. Parents will come running with open wallets if you say it's elite for elite girls.

In spite of the fact that schools are pulling offers to ECNL girls.

Obviously we know it is weak here, but for at least the next few years ECNL will be just fine in most of the country. If GDA takes over the #1 spot it will be by a thin margin. None of it will help improve US soccer but players will have more options

Except nobody who knows anything at all pays good money for GDA, GPS, RTC or ODP. And PDP is free.

Happens all the time at all schools. Truth is that they never even extend offers in the first place to non-ECNL girls.

Another big club just bailed on GDA. Note that DeAnza Force are not shown on this ECNL map. They just agreed with ECNL yesterday to abandon GDA and commit their teams to ECNL. Map will be updated in the next few days.

Basically, GDA is dead in Northern California. And the big clubs in the southern California (Blues, Surf, Arsenal, Slammers) are committing their top teams to ECNL also.

US Soccer is the foundation and heart and soul of the DA program, US Soccer will be around much longer than any club collection that forms a league. Change is hard, being marginalized is even tougher to swallow. Oregon and the Portland Thorns will introduce a subsidized GDA program for Girls that will have a place in the landscape. Regardless, Oregon's role in the GDA or ECNL is irrelevant from a competitive standpoint, but with the Thorns offering a GDA program that offers thousands of dollars in savings compared to the local club that doesn't makes the choice of where to play: Thorns GDA or the local club travel team is now much easier on the eyes and pocketbook.

I love how the ECNL clubs are the only ones in this state that sayid no to the borg and are actually getting stronger despite facing down the evil empire.
