Too bad. My son had him when he coached at EA. Great guy, great coach.

          Actually....
The true focus of DA program is training and development not college showcase. So may seem silly for you mindset.

Those 05 an 06 are in the last few golden years of development. DA strongly encourages development minded programs. Not everyone is there because we are a pay to play country with and high level soccer is seen as a investment in college access so investing in younger players seems silly with college so far away.

so next year here are the ages...

At the start of the 2017-2018 Boys Development Academy season:
U-18/19: eligible for players born Jan. 1, 1999 or later
U-16/17: eligible for players born Jan. 1, 2001 or later
U-15: eligible for players born Jan. 1, 2003 or later
U-14: eligible for players born Jan. 1, 2004 or later
U-13: eligible for players born Jan. 1, 2005 or later
U-12: eligible for players born Jan. 1, 2006 or later
You are slightly uninformed my friend. DA is yes about developing, but the opportunities to be seen by college coaches is second to none. At the showcase in Dec in Florida no less than 150 college coaches, way more coaches than parents watching.

Would you be developing to be a really good backyard player?

Lucky if you've never had one. It can literally ruin a team. Been there, don't ever want to do it again

Even funnier all the kids know on the team that the parents son/daughter who is in charge is always the worst player on team.

That's true in our group, but the kid gets special treatment anyway. It's frustrating.

Not always - we've had a few mangers whose kids were quite good. But if the kid isn't good then typically the manger will try to curry favors for their own kid regardless and for their kids friends. Thsts when it can get ugly. If you have a good manager or none at all (because the club does it) be grateful.
