Wa GDA - Eastside FC joining Seattle United

    https://reignacademy.com/#academy-programs

Looks like Reign Academy is absorbing EFCs GDA program. EFC and SU will feed into the Reign Academy. Only a matter of time, 1-2 seasons ECNL program in WA will be severely diluted.

Where does Seattle Reign ECNL fit into this? They are calling GDA the program for the "elite" players.

That alliance thing in Oregon has sure done wonders for the local clubs with that patch.

Does this also mean that the Girls DA lost another NW team with this announcement? Travel cost are going to be awesome!

Unless these clubs meet in the middle like in Renton or Starfire, this will never work. More than likely they will practice in Seattle which means no more than 1 to 2 girls per age bracket will make this drive. This is about how many girls already make this drive to play at WPFC.

Starfire makes the most sense as they already play their games there. Also if they move to Starfire for practices, they may be able to pick another 1 to 2 girls per age bracket from WPFC. There is always a few crazy parents that will drive their kids around. If you are driving more than an hour each way, look for another club.

If you know soccer then this BS does not have an effect on you. If you are like 99% of Americans and you have no clue about soccer, then I guess this is news?

Snarky comment I would never say out loud (because I am a coward): how can Reign advertise health and fitness for girls with overweight coaches? For gods sake they are on the field every day; can't they do a few laps?

Of course Arena looks like a slob too, but he isn't trying to sell folks on health and fitness, just the merica style of coaching is going to get us to the world cup; a discussion for another thread.

More evidence that GDA will be stillborn. Clubs are folding and/or merging all over the country and the GDA hasn't even had their first tryouts yet.

Even more travel costs for Thorns Academy GDA now that a relatively "local" club has packed it in. Can we say $15K per year, minimum?

Should have given PacNW the DA and had 4 ECNL Clubs in ECNL; WPFC, Crossfire, Seattle United and Eastside.

Get rid of Thorns in DA and keep the two ECNL clubs Portland.

                    No Brainer......

When all is said and down....DA only has a chance of working in SoCal. They have always wanted their own league and never wanted to travel out of state anyways.

PacNW would have the same problems as Eastside FC. They already lose their best players to WPFC or Xfire ECNL and that's not about to change.

What we're seeing is that these clubs that thought they wanted into the GDA are beginning to realize, almost too late, that they are better off without it.

Plans, ideas and dreams are all good until you have to execute. With Crossfire fully subsidizing their top two teams in Girls DA, it will be hard to compete for talent. Eastside was smart to throw the towel in now. Do people really think that Eastside players will drive all the way to Seattle during rush hour and paying tolls? I see maybe a player or two per age group but no more than that.

Lot shorter drive to Xfire than to SU for those Eastside players.

Very few hate Bernie enough to drive an hour+ in rush hour traffic in Seattle...
