GDA will not be a factor in Portland.
The thorns academy has been very poor in the last couple years.

Rumor has it some players are leaving GPS. Any truth to this? Have players been to other clubs training sessions?

I'll bite.
1. GDA isn't even here yet and if you think that a league is some how going to magically create quality then you are dumber then the Ecnl Oregon parents which says a lot.
2. Oregon Ecnl is crashing and it has nothing to do with the GDA. GDA will only further push it away. Oregon Ecnl represents what happens when you have people brain washed into propaganda set forth by the league of teams that have nothing to do with Oregon. Oregons best team that got so many college recruits didn't even play Ecnl until u17 and they underachieved with that. Their college offers are nothing more then each random team from Oregon in the past. Getting 1-2k a year to go to a local school makes Ecnl a scam considering kids can get that without the side show.
3. Oregon Ecnl teams tout they are the best when they don't even scratch the surface of competing outside of Oregon. They are a doormat and with overblown rosters with kids not playing and terrible coaches , the turnover is horrible and development is crap. Why do you think they kee trying to sell when you'd think the 25 they have on each team could get it done? Oregon Ecnl teams like many Ecnl teams aren t even the best in state.
If you consider that the Oregon Ecnl teams wouldn't even be top 7-8 in Washington and 3-4th in Oregon then that will show you how stupid they are for flying to play some team from Kansas that is just as they are....
Fc Portland and cu at the youngest age were bad last year and still bad this year with zero interest from talent in the state. GPS schedule this year was much more competitive then Ecnl and it cost far less.
4. Oregon Ecnl teams are getting killed and not even getting time to develop or they are flying to play some sub par team with a patch that isn't good either. What a waste. (This is if your kid plays based on the overloaded rosters to manage costs)
5. GPS is intetesting because it represents what Oregon is. Sporadic teams that are successful outside of Oregon that prove it. Oregon Ecnl teams prove they aren't even capable but by a patch they think they are elite...it's a joke among a lot of coaches.
6. The risk of GPS is that it is based off a singular coach and set players. No fc Portland team could ever make it work with the players they have.because they do a terrible job at developing and Ecnl made it harder for already poor coaches. If GPS coach leaves or gets removed then they have no one capable in the club to make it work.
7. GPS could be a great opportunity for all the players but it rides on the idea they don't lose players to thorns academy (no one leaves for Ecnl at this point, not even bad players)
8. Thorns academy will be run under the GDA which theoretically could be good but also a disaster. There isn't enough good players to go around and thorns would be stupid to think they are just going to be gifted players from alliance and non alliance clubs. You could potentially see all the clubs ♣️ passively working against the thorns because of the arrogance and politicking they have done. If the thorns don't get enough good players, they will flounder quickly.
The fight on these boards isn't about current age groups. It should be about the youngest ages who have no idea about these programs or history. Ecnl parents are using the same logic to discredit the thorns that is being used against them while no one realizes that when a u10 kid sees a thorns game they will naturally want to play for the "thorns academy" regRdless of quality.
I think GPS has shown the Ecnl propaganda spreaders that they are full of it and you don't get anything without earning it. (Ecnl parents want something handed to them for paying the money and they will soon realize it's futile)
Will GPS stand the test of time?

The coach is the best in the state but has a history of being released by clubs. He is the only coach that really understand how to make players and doesn't fit into the normal Oregon status quo.

Fact: GPS schedule this year was more competitive and they were more successful then the Ecnl teams. (Not hard to do)
Fact: GPS spent a fraction of the cost and travel the Ecnl teams were forced to do.
Fact: GPS if they were to stay together would have more college recruits then Oregon Ecnl clubs. (Good players get recruited not mediocre kids who spend 10k to play in a league)
Question: GPS may not stay together if the coach can't keep the train on the tracks. (Not likely they stay together with him for 5 years in a row)

In all reality, most teams could pick a better schedule then the Oregon Ecnl teams that are forced to play crappy teams or overly good teams. Meanwhile they are getting killed on cost and travel and lack of play time.
Oregon Ecnl is not California Ecnl. It's like Montana odp saying they are as good and getting all the accolades as cal south odp because they technically are in the same league by placement.
