    Short Description:
    The University of Portland is a National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I institution and West Coast Conference (WCC) member located in Portland, Oregon. This regular, full-time position will be responsible for supporting the Head Women’s Soccer Coach in developing high-performance student athletes. The primary duties of this position consist of instructing student-athletes in the skill development for their sport, as well as physical health, teamwork, safety, and other instructional areas related to student-athlete sport development.

    Responsibilities:
    Conduct individual and group instruction in sport-specific skills, as well as conducting instruction related to strength and conditioning training activities.

    Conduct individual, small group and team meetings to provide skill and sport-related performance development instruction to students (video/data review).

    Prepare/assist with preparation of instruction, i.e., practice plans for team training and practice sessions; analyze data and results from practice and competition to include in individual and group instruction.

    Attend all competitions in order to provide instruction; assist with athlete preparation and execution; including strategy, data collection and continual coaching.

    Other instructional duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

    Requirements:
    Education and Experience

    Required: Bachelor’s degree.

    Required: Three years’ of directly related club or collegiate coaching experience.

    Or equivalent education and/or experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and an excellent attention to detail.

    Excellent leadership, team-building and motivational skills; including determination, patience, and enthusiasm.

    Ability to work independently but also to constructively receive supervisory direction and work effectively in a team setting.

    Strong orientation towards continued learning and applying learning in the work setting.

    Professional demeanor and the ability to work effectively with various constituencies including prospective students, current students, their families, the general public, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and other members of the UP community.

    Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

    Ability to travel based on team/recruiting schedule and work irregular or late hours as needed.

    Certifications and Licenses

    First Aid/CPR Certified or ability to obtain certification.

    Valid state driver’s license.

    Physical Requirements

    This position requires the physical ability to demonstrate sport activities, techniques, and skills.

    This position requires frequent standing, walking, twisting, using fine manipulation, grasping, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.

    This position requires the ability to attend events and activities on and off campus and to interact and communicate with alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff and friends of the University.

    The position requires the ability to travel by car and air.

    Candidates must have the physical ability to drive team van or bus to practices and competitions.
