What families and players should be entitled to is respect. If the team has been picked in advance, tell players in jeopardy straight up in advance so they have a chance to tryout elsewhere. Don't tell kids they're on the bubble for a team when actually the fix is in. Clubs want loyalty, fees and donations from families. They have a responsibility to treat kids with kindness and honesty. Elitism and entitlement isn't just coming from parents.

No, the most the club can do if they've picked the team in advance is be honest and tell a player to look elsewhere before tryouts. I realize that directness is avoided here in the PNW and we're all supposed to speak in code and read the signs, but if you're dealing with a kid's future at college recruitment age, it's time to put on your big boy pants and do the right thing in terms of communication.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostTrue, but in the case of a that SU ECNL team more than half dozen "on the bubble" showed up for SU tryouts vs trying luck elsewhere, which seems to point to unclear communication from the club. It's a new season and those kids have moved on...the bigger issue is that you hear these kind of stories about most youth clubs, even though it's absolutely possible to respectfully deliver bad news to a kid when you need to. The idolizing of "competition" allows coaches and clubs to get away with a lot of bad, self-serving behavior. We are dealing with kids here. First and foremost, soccer is supposed to be about fun, but instead it's an industry that's oriented around the adults. Parents do their part to suck the fun out of it too with their own bad bahavior. Parents also allow the ugliness to continue by accepting whatever clubs and coaches do, as long as it's not directed at our own kid. It's sad, because when everybody does step up and coaches and parents all act like adults who care about kids, soccer is a lot of fun.
Imagine trying to get a job on the annual hiring day, and the employer you have scheduled your interview with knows before you show up whether or not you have a job, but cares so little for your well being that they don't have the decency to tell you to look elsewhere.

That metaphor's not complete because the club benefits from you staying at the club if you don't make the higher team. They offer your kid a B team spot and keep the annual fees instead of sending those away to another club.

This discussion got dumb quick. You, the parent, and your wallet make the decisions here. Stop complaining. If you don’t like it, do something else. Stop acting like a victim.

Seemed like a great plan for SU...Some stayed but at least 2 girls were able to get ECNL spots at other clubs even though tryouts were over. A lot of needless stress for everyone that could've been avoided if players were the focus

POS like you are exactly why parents feel they can bribe their child’s way into college. Further, you are the bully not me. Why the name calling you idiot!
