The better players (and their parents) want to flock to the best of this and the best of that. The not as good players (and their parents) also want to flock there. Over time, ECNL will water down and just be another league, as they have already begun with astonishing lack of level of play. Some clubs consistently produce but it's not common. Do you really think we should change youth sports into semi-professional sports where our girls play for a club three states away? (Yes, some ECNL clubs allow it.) If they're just playing in games, who's preparing them? Their local non-ECNL club.
**OPINION ALERT**, your post is based on thin air. Getting recruited is one thing...having options is another. To use your vague example of "over time"..."over time" California ECNL got stronger, not weaker or watered down. Please provide some "over time" examples to back your baseless bs. I'd rather have my daughter choose where you play vs taking the only offer she gets.

You Sir, are full of crap.

Quit acting like some ECNL expert. You know about as much as a YMCA rec dad. Go fetch your kids some snack and stay out of the bigs.

You are out of ECNL meaning all girls coming into FKK do not have the advantage of being scouted at showcases with 600+ coaches. Your commits will drop next February and each year after. Who has time to put their kid in a club with diminished recruiting?

Spoken like a true "know-it-all" dad on the sidelines. I am sure you will give your opinions to anybody standing within earshot. Tell me about your wealth of wisdom and experience on youth soccer. Had a kid playing what? 8-years? 10-years? So you have been hanging around soccer fields watching real coaches do the work and now you are a expert on ECNL? What a croc.

If you spent any real time reading and learning about ECNL, you would know why it is superior to anything FYSA will ever produce. You have been brought up in a monopoly where one central authority controls the game. Now that we have ECNL, the power is back in the hands of the member clubs. Decisions can be made at the local level that are best for the players. Teams do not have to follow a "one-size fits all" mentality that has turned US Youth Soccer into the laughing stock of the world.

To say that the league will water down is simply a naïve look at youth soccer. This is not some local league that just wants more clubs, more kids and more money. They have capped membership and teams only want the best because they play the best. Nobody wants to have a winless season as OC did this year. Be certain they are heavily recruiting all over Florida for the best players so they are not winless next year. ECNL is the end of the funnel for talent, not the top. Mediocre players simply will not make the team because the club has more than enough talented U14-18 girls trying out.

Finally, why do you care if a kid is a discovery player? You seem to cling to this ideal that a child should remain with the same club in the same system from U6-18. Why is that? What advantage does that provide? Can you point to one club in the history of Florida soccer that has always maintained the highest standard in development and has dominated the state? Just one? Go ahead and look up the State Cup gallery. No dominate clubs on either side. We have great parity in the state so why would it be detrimental for a child to leave one club and go play for another? Do you realize that be age 15, most girls know who the good teams are and where the good players will be playing next year? Honestly, did you know this? It is a fact. It is why girls change clubs in their teen years. They want to play with the best so they can have the greatest opportunity to be scouted.

Let me ask you another question. Why would a college coach burn his travel budget to go watch a mediocre state cup team play that has one or two outstanding players? The answer is they don't anymore. Take a peek around at this year's finals. There may be 20-30 college scouts. Most coaches go to ECNL showcases like the recent one in Sanford. Over 600 college coaches attended that event. 600+ friend. That is why girls will travel over two hours to play on an ECNL team.

Everyone on TS is entitled to their opinion. I have yet to hear one ECNL parent say that their league was the "only way" to get recruited. Yet time and time again, we get these bitter parents who come on here and want to criticize a league that was created to make the game better for the players. It just amazes me to hear the petty drivel that means nothing. The rumors, the conjecture are just outrageous. Get a life man. If you keep criticizing advances in the game, then nobody will care to improve the game and we can go back to playing "backyard brawls" like they do in high school. Get a grip pal. ECNL is here to stay and you don't have to like it, but to run it down like you just did is just plain idiotic.

Read the article that you linked you moron. Its dated January 17th. The very last 2 sentences are quoted below.

"ECNL held their annual membership meeting on Friday morning during the NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia. We’ll soon find out whether revoking club memberships was on the agenda."

I have news for you, since the article you linked was written they had their meeting and it was on the agenda and there will be NO new additions to ECNL until they drop clubs that are performing poorly. Now go crawl under your rock whence you came!

They placed eight 2014 players. Very proud of those young men, as well as the 20 young ladies.

Why so defensive? Why do you find it necessary to respond to an anonymous opinion by writing a brochure's worth of propaganda?

Answer this one- if ECNL is the "end of the funnel" and "600 coaches are scouting every event", then why didn't OCYS have the "best players in Florida" recruited and signed en masse to top schools all over the country?

ECNL is a great league, no doubt about that. But that's really not enough. It takes great coaching and a great club with a great program to use ECNL for its intended purpose.

You guys have only 25% of the equation figured out after 2 years. at that rate OCYS will be awesome in 2020.

600 coaches watching a team get completely outmatched doesn't seem to be a positive thing.

I am not from OC but lets be fair. It is well known that most of the players jumped ship to FKK last year. The players that are now at OCYS(most of them) would not have had the opportunity to play in ECNL this year had that not have happened. I still think its a good thing that "600 college" coaches watch their games because there are TONS of mid range D1 schools as well as D2 schools with great academics that will be among those "600 coaches". Those coaches will be able to better assess whether those kids would be able to help their program. Not every college coach can get the PDA, eclipse select, Dallas sting, Michigan hawks, WFF ( :) ) players. So they will be looking for players that may get passed up by the bigger D1 programs( most players do get passed up) and find a player that will fit well in their program. So yeah, it probably is a positive thing for those kids who otherwise might not have had the opportunity.

I think 600 coaches is a highly inflated number. More propaganda from angry purple guy.

what's positive about getting an embarrassing butt whooping in front of coaches you are trying to impress? and let's not pretend that one or two good players are going to show beautifully while the other 9 are holding them back. It's a team sport.

You can't claim ECNL will attract coaches on the basis of elevated play and then pretend the coaches won't notice the sub-par coaching and training.
