What is the experience like for the non ECNL and non DA teams? When they travel to college showcases do coaches watch them play? The kids are young for recruiting so I'm not sure what to expect.

U15 is 03s. Right?
Many 03s are freshman. Game is on.
For the 8th graders, it is a bit early, but not unheard of

The typical wisdom I hear on TS is that recruiting begins sophomore year, and only once the player reaches out and emails a coach. If true then what is the 9th grade experience like when 0 emails have been sent? Is it just a get your feet wet kind of year?

Offers and Commitments? No. Those don't start coming till sophomore year, and the majority won't come till Junior year. All offers are perishable until the NLI is signed or the D3 acceptance letter arrives.
As for Recruiting lists, camp Invites, and requests to fill out recruit forms on web site - that absolutely starts freshman year. With all of that said, I do agree that Showcases are a sham, and mostly represent am opportunity for coaches to check-in with players they are already tracking.

Are non-ECNL/DAP kids getting recruited at all?
Posted by an ignorant fool that will be wasting more than the cost of a full year of college over the years to get a "scholarship" to put their kid to work.
If you have a stand-out player, they will be found (unless they are looking to play at the other end of the country). Go ask any college coach. Don't listen these obnoxious posted who have nothing better to do than try to justify their obsession that takes over their life. Go check back with most of these guys in 5 years and see how it all worked out and if their kid is even still playing.

Different for Boys ECNL versus Girls ECNL. Girls are recruited earlier than boys. No college coaches were seen at the Orlando, San Diego or Memorial Day tournament for Boys ECNL.
