In order to look at the bylaws you have to care about the oysa since no clubs have a clue about the structure of the oysa they just let the Timbers/thorns run it.. they simply can't be bothered

Conflict of interest? Do you mean, for example:

OYSA greatly expanding ODP to include RTC pools (so everyone is "elite"), casting their nets wide at the youngest ages?

Then OYSA taking the ODP pools and spending the entire year indoctrinating...I mean telling those kids they have a chance to make national teams but only if they do thorns academy or timbers academy?

Then OYSA taking those thorns academy girls from the "alliance" clubs they swindled, putting those girls on an all star team, and putting that team back into the same league as the team's they came from?

Then OYSA putting a blurb (lie) on their website saying 100% of OYSA teams support this?

And OYSA using cost as a selling point for thorns academy, saying we are cheaper than ECNL and offer the same experience, and then after convincing girls to quit their local teams joining a travel league that will cost even more than ECNL?

Or Thorns and ODP coaches spending an entire year "encouraging" players not to do high school soccer, but putting in their propaganda...I mean literature...that doing high school soccer is fine?

Or inviting girls to a preview night with a promise that they will be told before paying $100 for tryouts if they have a reasonable shot to make a team - only to tell every girl who shows up for preview nights that they should try out?

Yes, it certainly seems like OYSA has strict guidelines in place regarding ethical business practices and conflicts of interest.

My suggestion if you want OYSA to have an ounce of accountability to anyone is that you pray ECNL doesn't fold. Because right now the CHOICE we all have to send our girls to ECNL, thorns, or stay on local clubs is the only thing keeping OYSA in check. Sort of.

Makes sense if the GDA is coming and only taking the accepted clubs best most elite players to the GDA, then all the our local clubs are free to choose like CU and FC PDX to join the ECNL if they want, as they(ECNL) will need teams to fill this massive void. For some strange reason this sounds like a reboot of the failed OPL? Will pass.

If you really think the top players in Oregon are going to choose the Thorns Academy, you seriously need your head read. Thorns Academy teams will be WEAKER next yet than they are today (which is seriously weaker than they were 2 years ago).

I believe this is the last year of the Thorns Academy, 2016-17 and they have full rosters today so even if we wanted to choose the Thorns Academy we couldn't, unless a player dropped from the program. As for 2017-18 there will no longer be a Thorns Academy, it will vanish not only being WEAKER they won't exist.

Maybe you are confusing the Portland Thorns GDA teams coming to Oregon in 2017-18, with the current Thorns Academy. Sorry for your confusion.

            All the best.

Call it what you want. It's just semantics. Today's Thorns Academy is exactly the same as tomorrow's Thorns GDA Academy. Just a different patch on the uniform because they'll be the bottom feeder in the NW division of the GDA league instead of a bottom feeder in the Premier division of OYSA. EVERYTHING else is exactly the same. Same poor coaching. Same poor talent. Same poor results. Oh, one thing will be different. The cost will be much higher than this year - probably 50% higher than ECNL.

Yeah, those "full" rosters did really well at the bronze level Beaverton Cup too. Couldn't even win at that level.

There is also the choice for boys to play on a USDA team, if at the right age/ability.

I think an alternative to Timbers' league is warranted - too many conflicts, too little accountability; OYSA hasn't found a way to provide oversight.

I use to be one of those "pro-unity" guys . . . the unity we have today may be worse than the old OYSA and worse than the OPL.

It's not an accident that our government and economists agree that monopolies are bad. Think of Ma Bell (if you are old enough). Today's paper had a story about the Feds trying to prevent a merger of two giant health care companies because guess what - lack of competition leads to higher prices and lower quality of product or service. That's what all you folks cheering for the death of ECNL are cheering for. ECNL and CU/FCP are far from perfect. But as long as they exist to offer folks an alternative to the OYSA/Thorns monopoly, soccer will be better off.

FC PDX & CU have the only monopoly running in our local club scene. They have complete control of the stupidest and most gullible parents willing to spend thousands and thousands dollars to fly their little darlings all over the country.

With the GDA coming to the PORTLAND THORNS in 2017 these parents won't be subject to being held hostage to a local clubs delusional vision of local area girls club teams (10) of them being forced to travel to slaughter for the sake of unity or the club. T

In the future they will have a choice as no local club will be in the GDA.

Break up all the monopolies and bring order out of this insanity.

I hope all the non Timbers clubs pull out again and start their own league again. Let the Timbers play themselves again.

No. Westside did not lead people to OPL and their TA coaches and board members didn't have own kids in ECNL so guess the above posters are talking about other clubs.

WT OPC members' kids are grown. Which TA clubs and coaches are you talking about?

                              Vancouver and Eugene for starters.

Who are you to determine a tournament's level?

I've seen you work pretty darn hard to ensure that the future new GDA doesn't happen.
