    ECNL Reviewing clubs..interesting

Here is what the ECNL League announced today:

All member clubs are required to meet the league’s standards each year, based on an objective review of each club’s past performance, club depth and strength, and additional factors and unique circumstances of each club.

After initiating this review process, and in discussions with leadership of top performing clubs, the ECNL has approved the membership of the below listed clubs at this time, and each club has re-affirmed its membership in the ECNL in both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. The ECNL will continue to review other clubs’ eligibility for membership.

Since Crossfire Utd and FC Portland were not approved or re-affirmed in the listed clubs;does that mean they could possibly be removed from the ECNL soon? They hold no seat in the so called 'discussions with the leadership of top performing clubs."

Are the Portland Thorns going to slide in as members of the GDA and USSDA like so many of the the GDA clubs have announced?

Crazy stuff and even crazier outcomes coming.

Relax on the rumor starting .... Many more clubs to review. No reason to believe that either club will not meet the requirements.

It would be easy to relax if the ECNL would just review and reaffirm our local club.

I had nothing to do with any 'rumor' starting, please contact the ECNL and have them clear the air as they have created this situation.

Just reading their internet and soccerwire press release today, it's a bit unsettling.

The article only mentions the 11 top performing clubs. Just a PR release with all the GDA news out there. I think the article was meant to calm everyone not worry them! LOL

          Here is what it said:

Candidly the clubs listed on the Press release are of no concern to us, we don't play them and they are also clubs that are joining the USSDA in 17-18 and we could really care less if their non-GDA players are allowed to stay in the ECNL.

Here is the part that frightens us and needs to be cleared up right away!

The ECNL will continue to review other clubs’ eligibility for membership.

FCP and CU will be fine. They meet all the requirements for membership and have actually improved on-the-field performance over the first 2 years. The 11 clubs they listed are historically the top performing clubs and ECNL was just trying to show that those clubs aren't going anywhere for at least the next 2 years.

As for the "A" team in GDA, "B" team in ECNL (or vice versa) thing, what will likely happen is that neither team will be as strong as it would have been in the past as some girls will choose one or the other but not all of the best players will all make the same choice. So it will be more like having 2 similar strength "A" teams - one in GDA, one in ECNL.

Did Bernie Sanders brand of socialism become the new normal in girls Soccer and competitive sports?

We still live in the USA home of the world's Best Female players.

Being #1 is still the thing.

The Top Clubs across this country in the GDA will always have an 'A' team and a 'B' or just one 'A' team. it's the foundation of their club, having the most talented players playing together. This feature is what attracts more top players to their club, year after year & they aren't going to risk this level of team and status over a mandate their girls won't play HS Soccer. It's not a deal breaker for the club, that's why they applied to the GDA. If a player doesn't want to give up HS Soccer they will offer another team in the club for them to play on, but if this player is really special she won't think twice about not playing HS Soccer and the club will encourage her to stay with the clubs top team.

So those "really special" 1 or maybe 2 kids per club will insist on playing DA. All of the rest, it's a crapshoot. The reason all of the top ECNL clubs that have been accepted to the DA are continuing in the ECNL is because they KNOW that only a fraction of their top talent is interested in the DA and they don't want to lose those players to another club. Hence 1 A team for ECNL and another A team for DA. Pretty simple except that Thorns can't provide the same options and will struggle to pull together more than 3-4 top players per age group.

These clubs are going to the USSDA in 2017-18, did they renounce a spot in the GDA recently?

Have no clue what the ECNL is trying to show regarding those clubs, maybe those clubs are not sending their non-GDA players back to the state leagues but are opting to have the girls not selected for the GDA team form teams in the ECNL. If so, they should of just said so vs. the nonsense they aren't going anywhere, when indeed many of the teams are going to the GDA.

What the ECNL is clearly stating is that those 11 top clubs have committed to field teams in all 5 age groups of ECNL for the next 2 years. Those clubs are doing this because they KNOW that only a small fraction of their players have any interest in the DA. Sure they'll find enough parents willing to pay to have their "B" and "C" teams pine riders added to the DA rosters, but in many clubs the ECNL teams will be as strong, if not stronger, than the DA teams. And that's OK, they serve different purposes. DA is only for the 0.001% that might actually make the national team someday. ECNL is dedicated to getting girls ready for college ball and will attract a huge percentage of the remaining 99.999% of players.

If anything you said was based in reality the club would not of applied to the DA. It's a much simpler solution and makes sense if that were really an issue.

These Top clubs will send their top players onto GDA teams in 2017-18.

A top club coach could care less about the players HS Season, most have always wished they didn't have to deal with the damage it does to their players. Just ask a Top club coach. (note: you will have to ask a coach in another state, not Oregon, we have no Top clubs or coaches currently)

We also only have maybe 2 or 3 top notch truly elite players over all girls GDAP age groups. Even less of a need for GDAP in Oregon than ECNL.
