Even with all your family's knowledge can you honestly deny you might be a tiny bit nervous if your kid had an allergy like that? The other problem is some people can have modest reactions a few times that suddenly turns dangerous (I had that happen with bees as I got older). There's no way to predict who that will happen to, heightening the fear

*Many public school districts have created "safe" classrooms and areas in lunch rooms rather than outright bans. Some families do a better job of teaching their kids how to handle it while others coddle them and hover too much - that is also part of the overall societal issue. My wife works in higher ed. The stories she has about hovering parents of college students are unbelievable. My kids think it's hysterical when they see parents of their friends do things that they know their friends should handle on their own.

    not the op btw....
You nailed it. It's all about the lawsuits and hovering parents. No matter what's happening in OP's "old country" I can guarantee no parents are suing because Vlad experienced emotional trauma from a coach yelling at him. Whether it's but allergies or headers or even participation trophies, it all comes down to fear of a lawsuit or fear of a crazy mom calling you 10 times per day. Banning nuts or headers is not the problem, it's the result of our litigious everything must be safe and perfect society.

-fewer than 200 food-related allergy deaths occur in the us annually (for all foods including shellfish)
-even severely allergic patients need to consume a massive amount of nuts to die, even anaphylaxis requires much more than just contact or residual quantities
-rather than avoiding nuts, numerous studies have proven that gradual exposure to nuts will reduce symptoms and in most cased eliminate the allergy
-there is a strong correlation between ethnicity/income level and nut allergy diagnosis... meaning Kaden in Greenwich is 11x more likely to have an allergy than Pedro in Bridgeport

simply stated, more people die from coconuts falling from trees each year (around 180) than from ingesting tree nuts (fewer than 100).

while off topic, it does connect to the point about our society going nuts (pun intended) about protecting our kids from real AND perceived dangers.
So, your wife is really saying that nut allergies are only in our kids heads? So when my kid ate his first candy bar with nuts in it at 3 years old, his face didn't really blow up like a balloon and he didn't spot it out immediately because he said it was hot? While desensitization is a very good strategy to help people with allergies tolerate some foods like nuts much better it is a relatively very new practice that has only been accepted within the last few years. Perhaps the reason so few people die because of these severe allergies is awareness, precaution in schools to limit exposure, and the prevalence and quick administration of drugs like Benadryl and epinephrine. Are accidents between bigger, faster cars on faster highways not as deadly today as 60 years ago or are the cars just far safer (crumple zones, seat belts, air bags, antilock brakes, accident prevention systems, roll bars in high end sports cars .....)?

Perhaps that the medical community has fostered and created this hysteria and can do nothing to disprove it? That pharmaceutical companies are capable of creating irrational, physical symptoms in order to sell product?

Deaths are infrequent in the US because of the widespread availability of epi pens and other treatments, public awareness and education. Deaths are not common in other countries because the frequency of such allergies is much lower. That is because our kids increasingly live in sanitized, air conditioned bubbles, not getting exposed to allergic triggers. And for many years the US doctors had it all wrong - they told pregnant women not to consumer nuts, when in fact now it's shown that eating nuts during pregnancy helps safely expose the baby to possible allergens. Breast fed babies are also much more likely to not have allergies.

No. Your kid should have eaten his first nuts as an infant and while his reaction was very unpleasant, it would only be fatal if he ate a case of the nuts. The reaction is a natural deterrent to prevent him from consuming more nuts.

Thanks doctor, are you sure? He had a full anaphylactic reaction to them that forced his eyes shut ..... we did not wait for his throat to close before calling the hospital NICU. When my son was little, it was not en vogue to introduce patients with allergies to the source. That is relatively new as I stated in my earlier post.

Nut allergies are serious, we get it and agree. But can we please get back to talking about soccer on a soccer blog?

                  You are a ****ing idiot.

                  Sorry to be so blunt.

Have witnessed 2 near deaths from tree nut ingestion

The kid had no concept of your absurd theory.

Eat nuts accidendently, body goes crazy, respitory system
shuts down, parents go to training, punch the Epipen, administer
Benedryle, EMS on the way, holding the kid close while EMS
on the way saying it will be OK, feel the kid slipping away in your arms and
praying EMS will be in time, EMS crashes your house, grab the the kid
and brings her back, run her to the hospital where she recovers.

A very relevant counterpoint written by someone who cant even spell accidentally or respiratory.
