I heard there is a league that high school teams play in over the summer to prepare for the fall season? I don't think it is run by the actual high school coaches but parents run the teams?

We are in a Class LL school in CCC. Yes, we have a parent run Summer League of other LL CCC teams.
FSA also runs a league that smaller schools field teams in. Check with your current Captains as to what the plan is for your particular school.

Originally posted by Unregistered View Postif your school works like ours the V coach will invite who he wants to participate. My player is, so it's not a jealousy issue. But it's clear who is favored and other players never get a chance. It's just a summer league so it should be open to anyone who wants to play

The SouthCentral District of the CJSA runs a high school conditioning league that runs two nights a week from mid-July to early August.
The teams are formed from the high school kids, but the local town clubs have to register and roster the kids. In our town, the boosters on the boys and girls side put this together and work with the town soccer club to get the teams properly registered and entered in the league. It's interesting to see how the tribe gathers from all the various club teams to make this happen. When there are too many kids for a single team, they just create a second one and the kids sort out who is on what team. They ensure all the new freshmen who want to tryout in the fall get onto a roster. Everyone who wants in, gets in. The players see it as a big bonding thing.
The district schedules out the games. Two per week. Officials are arranged by the home team. It's worked this way for at least a decade and there are tons of schools that get into this league. Even the parochial schools get teams here by working with a town club to get their gets properly registered.
Seems like a mess for the rest of you out there.

Our team invites the returning varsity players and only returning varsity players. They do not want anyone else from JV or freshmen to get a false sense of security.

Our LL Summer team is open to anyone from incoming Freshmen to Seniors. The coach does not run ir although he is occasionally hiding in the visitors stand or watching over a fence. The games are presided over by one of the Captain's parents and they just sit on the bench. The girls manage the subbing themselves.
Certainly not an invitation only thing.

it's certainly not by invitation only. (Maybe that's why don't win all that many games...)

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostOurs is the opposite - well I should say the captains still mostly run it, but the coach definitely has his fingerprints all over the selections. They will add some JV players to insure they have enough players. So if you're JV and get picked it's a good indication you should make V in the fall.
