    The teams in the bottom half of the league might only have 3or 4 D1 level players

    D3 coaches are mostly of two types. 1. Long term meta who win enough to keep everyone happy and likely have another position on campus; and 2. Young up and comers who are looking to win and advance their careers.

    Coaches are focused on winning.
    And my daughter played for a MASCAC program. This doesn't describe her team at all. The players actually capable of playing D1 were few and far between but if you asked the parents they all were D1 prospects.
