Teachers unions are a problem. They need to be forced to either return to work or be fired.
If the $15 per hour wal-mart, target, stop n shop employees can work through the entire shutdown then the much better compensated teachers & admins can as well.
The death rate continues to drop daily.
For those under 65, it is lower then the seasonal flu. You don’t need a vaccine for them to return to work. Flu has a vaccine and it is more deadly to students and teachers under 65.
CDC needs to re-do the return to school guidelines. They school focus on personal hygiene and staying home if sick but not much more.
Then the feds should give schools immunity from prosecution from teachers and students as long as the school follows the revised cdc guidelines.
Districts can still offer remote learning for those that want it, but they should commit to it for at least a semester if not the year. If you chose remote learning then you would be ineligible for any extra circular school activities like sports or clubs. If you wish to isolate for the virus then you need to isolate.

No vaccine yet that's been vetted on a large scale for efficacy or safety. It then has to then be scaled up and retested again. Then production and distribution. H1N1 took 10 months to roll out and that's with extensive flu vaccine knowledge and production experience. They only had to modify existing flu vaccines. Coronavirus vaccines are very difficult to master on a good day.

Even January is a big stretch.

Why should the CDC re do the guidelines? Because Trump doesn't like them? Parents amd teachers are nervous enough as it is so sure, let's do less! Schools won't re open if the public doesn't feel assured

Oh, are you a doctor or an expert on vaccine development or did you just regurgitate what you’ve read somewhere?

are people at walmart, target, etc in the same limited space as 15-30 people for 30-60 mins? No. That is why it's different. It has been shown that a longer exposure to someone with covid increases your chances of getting it. Plus, kids are disgusting creatures - there is no escaping their spreading of germs! I'm a teacher, so take that last comment lightly. Also a parent and want my kids to go back to school - they need to for academic and social/emotional reasons, but am concerned that we closed schools down when the virus was at a much lower level than the level we are going to be opening at.
What do you do for work? Let's hear it - you have so much to say

You should just retire. I don’t want someone who was kids are disgusting creatures teaching kids.

You seem like a really poor teacher and society would be better with a better human teaching our children

Yes I actually read, from a variety of sources. You should try it some time.
Did Trump and FOX tell you we will have a vaccine by fall?

As experts learn more about where the greater spread risks are, indoors with limited air circulation is rising to the top. CT has already said all children and staff will have to wear masks. A friend on our local school board said they're trying to acquire heavy duty fans and figure out what classrooms have windows that open enough for good circulation. On nice days teachers will be encouraged to conduct a portion of instruction outside. Windows open on buses. Simple things that may help.

Sure. You've NEVER thought he same thing about kids. Why don't you become a teacher since you know everything. You'd be bathing in Purell all day long.

Do you teach in CT or CA? Because in CT the virus is at a very low level actually, almost non existent.

Teachers need to go to school and teach onsite in the fall. If other people can go back to work so can you- and teaching our children is essential! On-line school for a year is a joke and will do more harm to these kids than going to school and possibly catching a sniffle. Get to work. You don’t want to work, retire or take a leave.

Here’s the problem, you read “from a variety of sources” and now you think you’re Dr. Fauci. You’re still just a dude that isn’t an expert on epidemiology. Enjoy your reading, I read a lot too, I encourage it, reading is fundamental. However, just because you read doesn’t make you an expert and I don’t need to hear predictions and advice from you.

It's not as simple as you suggest:
.......one in four teachers (24%, or about 1.47 million people), have a condition that puts them at higher risk of serious illness from coronavirus

                              Per Fox News -
Teachers who taught summer school in same classroom catch coronavirus, one dies: report
