Those restrictions are too logistically challenging if they try to carve out exceptions for athletes. For example, at least some of these schools will not have freshmen on campus in one semester, sophomores in the next, etc. I.e., there will be no time in the coming year in which all team members will be on campus at the same time. This announcement about fall sports is just the beginning. If nothing changes appreciably to allow this policy to be relaxed, they're going to cancel winter and spring sports as well.

Bottom line is that colleges canceling sports has little to do with the actual safe conduct of athletic competition, and is therefore not relevant to the discussion about whether or not there will be high school sports.
Ivies can do it because they can; no way the PC, Bryant, RWU, Salve, etc. follow suit - they are planning on full residential because financially they need it.

Plus Ivies have many prima donna faculty who frankly don't want to go through the hassles the other schools will do to get kids on campus and in the classroom.

I can see MS soccer falling as it's low hanging fruit in terms cost savings and busing, etc. Expect a lot of school club type activities to go away at least for the fall.

But, can't push all sports to spring because of field conflicts with most schools; football maybe but barring some outbreak you should see soccer, maybe a reduced schedule. Kids should actually get more rest as you may see a lot of split HS schedules in terms of having only portions of the school coming in on a given day with the rest doing at home.

Just spoke to a college soccer coach today. I won't name his school for his confidentiality but he said his players are getting back to training individually and soon as a team. He said the season should not be cancelled he is planning that the start of the season is pushed back to end of Sept and go through Nov. he said the youth soccer (town) which he is involved with is looking to do the make, start games end of Sept with games every other week double headers. They are aware clubs are also dealing with likely double header games so the towns and clubs will hopefully plan their games on opposite weekends. So if a u14 player from East Prov plays one week it will be a double header game basically play the same team twice. Then the following week the players can play for Bayside their club team (if that is their club) also a double header. Colleges are not able to do the double headers but they are able to push back the calendar. Also spectates in youth soccer will be limited to two guests per player. No make on any players but coaches, refs, and parents wear masks.

nobody will know anything until the end of July everything else is pure speculation.
i just pray our governor doesn't phase back just because a bunch cowboys in FL and TX chose not to wear masks and they are in crisis. our state is doing fine.

Interesting on the masks..RIDE is not mandating it so far in the language to districts except for employees if it's a stable pod - not going to kick a kid out for no mask, etc. Anybody know what the schools who run summer camps are doing?

I can see limited fans and as noted above, masks for everyone but the players and refs when they are on the field..

JV should be eliminated across the board. Coaches or RIIL could care less.
Even D1 schools that could be in JV playoffs choose not to.
              (LaSalle SK etc..)

Glad your kids are the star of the show. Some kids will never be good enough for a varsity spot. Eliminate any fun they may have in high school sports. We have a winner here

Our Governor has no plans to cancel soccer in RI. She is doing great!
Football is her biggest concern and even with that she is keeping football just moving it to spring.

You might be asking WHY is she okay with schools open and sports back up, well she has been closely tracking New Zealand who has done an amazing job.

Rugby is back up and playing there to packed stadiums. Rugby! Incredibly sweaty contact sport

                          https://www.cbssports.com/general/news/new-zealand-welcomes-back-rugby-with-packed-stadiums-after-country-eradicates-coronavirus/

"Sports have returned in other countries, but they have been played mostly without any fans in attendance. Taiwan's professional baseball league (CPBL) started its season with empty ballparks, but has slowly been able to allow fans to attend games, with social distancing guidelines in place and only up to a 50 percent capacity."

As of yesterday the Gov of NJ allows high risk contact sports to be played this fall. Other states are moving in this direction. Most states also list soccer a monderare risk so its crazy if we don’t have games this fall. Here is NJ link for health dept on sports plan if anyone on this thread is writing to our governor regarding youth, club or high school sports.

                            https://nj.gov/health/cd/documents/topics/NCOV/COVID_GuidanceForSportsActivities.pdf

It’s important we don’t let sports just get wiped out for fall because it feels safer. We can’t have allowed crowds of 250 outside for weddings an events and then say no to games of 22 players max and maybe another 45 spectators spread out in masks if all kids have two parents there.

As a former collegiate wrestler, I'm confident in saying that if wrestling has the green light, then all sports should. There's no sport with more close, intimate contact, practice included.
