To fly all the coaches and players from NE down to FL, or worse CA, to do a meet a great is a tremendous waste of energy and money. ECNL could differentiate itself by doing more regional based events and maybe one national one at the end of the season.
Are those stats for the general population or for kids that play on high level sports teams in high school such as premier soccer (ECNL, GDA, NPL), basketball (AAU), baseball (AAU), and whatever AAU hockey is called? I bet those percentages are different for the player in these better sports leagues. Don't pick random stats out and apply them everywhere.

One advantage of too many highest and options is a little more control back to the player on that they can go to a different alternative if dissatisfied.
They do for the 2006s and 2007s apparently ..... how is that working out for them? You can't have parents running the joint, but the club has to step up and do the right things. When the club does things right, parents should be put in their place or sent packing.

I have heard that statistic about percentage of kids attending college within 8 hour drive before, but I never thought about athletes. I bet you are right that the percentage staying close to home gets smaller for college athletes, and smaller still for higher level college athletes. This seems logical but I wonder if actual statistics exist?

Take a look at where kids from OW, CFC, FSA etc commit and you'll find it's still mostly driving distance. As another example, there's this from the MA board on boys commitments from last year (2018 list still getting updated). Top players and top programs will be more varied, but even Stanford is almost all CA kids. Most mid to lower level programs will have a majority of "local" players and a few others from further afield (unless it's a top academic school that attracts players, not necessarily the soccer).

So do the schools. NE isn't a soccer powerhouse at the youth or college level
