The OP said coaches told him his son could play D1. If that's accurate, the kid is a top player.

I agree that all schools recruit, and if they want you will give you need based aid. Top academic schools won't give merit money. Reach out to the coach before your interview and let them know where your son plays now; send video if you have some.

Actually you can Reach out now. I know of one prep coach who had a clinic on campus for prospective players, kind of like an id camp.

Don't forget the OP said they wanted great soccer AND great academics. South Kent is a nice school, but nothing like a Taft or a Berkshire academically.
I wouldn't put Berkshire in the same group as Taft. It's a tier below.

That first statement highlights the amount of delusion we are dealing with here. There aren’t many legit D1 prospects in this state so the idea that we have an unknown that is a legit D1 prospect is a little far fetched. That being what it is, the idea that the parent would have to come here to TS in order to get educated about prep schools is beyond crazy. Why not just the coaches at a few prep schools an email and take their temperature? Having had a kid play in prep all that you really have to do is open the door and suggest that your kid might be interested in their school and if your kid is legit those coaches will walk through that open door. Like all recruiting, everything always boils down to how much talent you are selling.

Agree, but my point was that it is a few tiers above South Kent. Not everyone can go to Taft, and Berkshire is a good school academically.

Is this BTDT, god I hope not.

While I agree that at age 14 or whatever, it is hard to project where a kid will end up, there are most certainly 8th grade boys you have never heard of who will end up playing D1 soccer in college. Now, when they get to prep school and make an impact, then, yes, they get to be better known. But boys in middle school? this country is too big for every talented young kid to be identified with certainty.

Please go back to the dark ages. If a prep school is recruiting players, the coach knows who is who in their area. Whether they materialize as a legit D1 prospect is another issue. No different than club coaches recruiting 5th & 6th graders. Are you really going to say that doesn't happen these days?

It most definitely happens, if you're on the radar.

ISL prep schools recruit soccer, hockey and lacrosse players every single year. They know who the top 1% of the age groups are. If the phone ain't ringing, well then, sorry. One more thing, your kid needs not to be a dummy either.

Hold up, there's always Milton academy. Kane takes the rejects. He's pretty shrewd, he'll work the B players into the mix and stay competitive.

Revs cuts. Music to Kanes' ears. They suck.

What abut BB&N?, Sarzana is handcuffed by admissions. Must be frustrating for him. On the girls side, they get all the support.

Milton will not see the likes of Levee and Shapiro-Thompson ever again. Glory days are gone, the landscape has dramatically changed. Best of luck Chris!

Sigh. Why do so many TS posters have to be such jerks?

Yes, prep schools recruit. However just because your phone isn't ringing doesn't mean your kid can't play prep soccer. It is rare, but it happens that there is an unknown really strong player. If your kid can make varsity freshman year, understanding very few can, you are a strong player.

I wonder why prep school soccer is pretty much only discussed on the Mass. board. Connecticut has tons of prep schools too.

Do you even realize just how stupid you come across? You clearly have no clue what the prep school scene is like. We are essentially talking about prep schools giving some sort of special consideration to a kid because of his ability to play soccer. The way the prep schools operate that’s not just some average freshman kid who might be able to make its varsity, they expect that kid to not only start but be an impact player. It’s not any different with prep school kids who do things like music, theater or entrepreneurship, they want super stars. They are not interested in projects or near misses.
