Second, these decisions aren't just about athletes. The primary goal for districts and the state is to get all kids back in school as safely as possible AND to keep them there. That is complicated enough with adding sports into the mix.

Third, think about who the bulk of their constituents are - parents and residents who don't have athletes. Those people know colleges and even pros aren't running, or running normally. It's only natural they will question the sanity of HS sports. If a breakout is tied to athletic teams they will never hear the end of it. An outbreak also means no shot at winter or spring sports unless there's a vaccine miracle and every one has it by December (hint: that won't happen)
lets ,for the moment assume you are correct, they are worried about the academic part of the equation solely
so they cancel all fall sports (not going to happen yet)
youth sports clubs will just continue with their HS programs into the fall- so these athletes that you are so worried about will still be playing and still going to school- with whatever safeguards these clubs choose to implement-at least at school there is some level of control
there wont be a vaccine by december-so winter sports are then also done

we are going to be living with this for the foreseeable future- (like most other viruses)
there will be upticks in the count- are we going to pull the plug on everything every time there is an uptick? or are we going to manage the problem

All the back and forth is confusing, who is more inflexible DPH or CIAC ? CIAC likely didn't make any friends with the proclamation "Any fall sport that is cancelled will not be played at a later time during the 2020-2021 school year". Hearing their is little to no interest in 7v7 fball or outdoor vball, they would at least have hope for the real deal if delayed like DPH wants.

I think that DPH may very well pull the plug on youth/club sports, after it pulls the plug on CIAC. The writing is on the wall in its 8/23 letter to the CIAC:

"Finally, as we move from the summer “club sports” season into the fall sports season, we recognize and appreciate the need to continue to clarify the advisability of youth sports outside of interscholastic competition (e.g., fall club and recreational sports) and we will have further communication on those issues both internally and with you in the coming days."

              Sport

I actually agree with that. If HS sports get cancelled by DPH I think they will cancel club sports right behind it. So be careful what you wish for anti HS sports people.

As far as I know the DPH has no authority to cancel anything, they simply make recommendations? If all fall sports (including club/private entities) were to be cancelled it would need to come from Lamont’s office. It would require them to go backwards on the phase that we’re currently in. It would also need to be data driven with cases growing at a larger scale.

Unions from across the state are banding together to call for safe conditions before schools reopen. The Coalition of Union represents teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, and bus drivers, which is more than 60,000 school staffers. The coalition is asking for districts to comply within thirteen principles. If they can’t, they’re requesting full remote learning.

Most of the list is perfectly reasonable. But this could be a sticking point - some southern schools are not doing this and parents and teachers are understandably pissed. Hiding information causes way more problems

                    10. Parents and union leaders shall be informed in any instance of a student or staff
member testing positive for COVID-19. Aggressive contact tracing measures shall be
implemented. Anyone deemed to have been possibly exposed must quarantine for 14
                    days

Most of the principles will be impossible to implement in the elementary schools. Teachers and staff staff will have to be in full hazmat suits.

Keep a close eye on the positive cases in the US. This virus will burn out and be gone by October 1st

As soon as federal government stops subsidizing the virus, it will be gone.
No federal money for testing or hospitals and it will disappear.

If Biden wins, you will no longer hear about the virus as of Nov. 3rd. The topic will move to defunding the police and using the money to pay reparations.
