Plus multiple games going on the same time (boys/girls/jv) is a factor so it makes scheduling difficult also. But on the flip side some things to ponder: why do they need to play 16 games a season? Less games could make scheduling easier and might lighten the load on available ref pool. Also why can't they play on Saturdays instead of right after school? Again this might make some better refs available?

Just staying with the status quo just because thats the way it's been done is lazy. NHIAA needs to step up and put together a committee to investigate and try to come up with improvements. The game wasn't designed for a two man system. In any sports contest refereeing or umpiring, the #1 rule that is taught is be in position. If you are in position to see the play, you are far more likely to get the call right. A two man system does not allow refs to be in the right position, especially on off side calls and touch calls.
16 games in 2 months for me is the biggest issue NHIAA could fix. Either extend the season or reduce the games.

Its basically two games per week .... same as ECNL and GDA when they push their fall season backward like ECNL. You can't have a 16-week season in HS and 8 games is a pathetic season.

They play 16 games in 10 weeks. If you can't play HS soccer 2x week with unlimited substitutions you are not an athlete. Sorry - but the idea that soccer can only be played once a week at the HS level is pathetic. College soccer plays 2 games per week. It can be done.

I would prefer that we make divisions so each team can play every other team in the division. Even if that means we add another division. Sometimes the seeding is weird in the playoffs depending on who plays who. At minimum, a team shouldn’t play another team twice when they have other opponents they haven’t played yet.

Thats not the point. It has to do with the number of games in a week, the number of available refs and timing among schools without lights, and multiple JV/varsity games. Playing less games would free up the burden on refs and possibly address the points made in this thread.

BTW, those athletes you talk about, are still practicing when their not playing so it has nothing to do with their athletic ability to play two games in one week. So why don't hold your judgmental attitude and follow the thread, Mr. armchair athlete.

The NHIAA needs 5 divisions in soccer - period. The bottom teams (regardless of girls or boys programs) in all divisions are the same programs every single year. None of the divisions allow for teams to play everybody once so you see teams with inflated records who play the bottom tier teams and rack up records of 12-3-1 but 9 of their wins come against teams 13 - 21. Their losses and their tie come against the only teams they play in the top 10. So this team earns a #4 or #6 seed and loses in the preliminary round.

In addition, with the stupid byes in the tournament, top 4 level teams go an entire week or more without a game.

One added division solves a ton of issues with seeding and schedule - let everybody play each other once and be done with it.

Agreed - in DI boys: Spaulding, Memorial, and Dover boys are always bottom 4 or 5 programs. DI girls - Keene, Spaulding, Memorial are also bottom 5 every year.

DII Boys& Girls - Kennett & Kingswood have no business in DII.

Moving some programs around and creating another division could help some programs become more viable and at least somewhat competitive while allowing everyone to play their entire division.
