If ML is the one “off to TA” then it’s time to blow the whole thing up as it’s just a repeat of last year. Westside’s player with the most upside potential (if you are truly about identifying future pro prospects and developing kids for the long haul not just “winning now”- which you should be at this age) is number 99 who would benefit the most from that type of environment if he is dedicated to soccer and no other sports.

This just in..... ML to TA, AP to WST and RF to UPDX! Who will be replacing these two at FC?

I thought RF was going to TA? ML is ok....he would be pretty far down on the TA bench, but sure...ok. AP would be a game changer at Westside and an upgrade over ML. Thankfully, FC has such quality depth and reserves that they will not miss a beat. I mean, that is why their starters and best kids only average 20 minutes a game, right?

The TA Reserve team will not be good and the friendlies they get to play in will be against weaker competition than Oregon DA.

99? HAHAHAHAHA! You are silly. He would benefit most by being on a B team and learning the very basics. ML does belong at TA and has the potential to do very well there. The WT 2006 also going to TA. AP would be a fantastic addition to WT and welcomed in high regard. Will see who shows up on Wed. Should all of this fall into place, it seems these kids are exactly where they belong.

Kind of funny that you think AP would be an upgrade from ML yet he is not going to TA. Maybe not an upgrade after all !

The 06 from WT is going to the 06 team at TA, not the 05. Big difference. The player from there coming to the 05 group will be a great addition to the training player pool.

I'm not going to agree or disagree with some of the other comments above concerning Westside players--it sounds like someone is busy chumming the water.

But as to AP vs ML... a direct comparison is hard because they play different positions and have different roles with the team. AP excels at getting goals, and as a featured forward. ML is mainly a midfielder and wing (and last year he played centerback for Copa after LD left; he's the player that RF clobbered in the State Cup semis) and is an extremely smart and talented soccer player; however he's more the kid you want making passes and bringing up the ball, not receiving them. He does have a cannon for a foot and is dangerous on set pieces, but he's not a "feature forward".

And as noted before, WT doesn't really have a "feature forward". WT does have quite a few other capable midfielders, however. Cony's tried playing several of them at striker, and it hasn't really worked well--being a successful striker is a unique skillset, and one that youth soccer clubs (especially below the premier level) do not teach well at all.

From the point of view of trying to win matches (which lots of parents here care about, probably more than the coach, no matter how much we might like to wax prosaic about "player development") adding AP and losing ML (and ML will reportedly move on regardless of who comes here--congrats to him, and this shouldn't be viewed as a "trade") will fill a tremendous positional need.

From the point of view of development--position doesn't matter. What matters is that you have players of reasonably similar skill level on the team together, a good coach leading them, and a slate of opponents who will challenge them but not embarrass them.

Yes, a TREMENDOUS upgrade. ML is an okay player who is fast. AP is a proven goal scorer, who is fast, physical and a winner. ML, not so much. (nice kid though!) Given that WST's defense likes to punt the ball down the field, seems like a natural fit for AP. Oh, and #99....that kid is raw! He needs more training, support and opportunities now, not TA.

WST's defenders are punting the ball, and not getting whistled for handball? Are DA refs THAT bad???

                            :)

Why do I doubt that this was written by a WT parent?

Raw and full of potential and physical ability something that many other kids will never have. Once he really learns the game (reportedly only played a short time) he would be a shut down center back- someone with long term potential that you want the best coaches working with and in our market that is supposed to be TA...
