The TA Reserve team will not be good and the friendlies they get to play in will be against weaker competition than Oregon DA.

Westside’s player with the most upside potential (if you are truly about identifying future pro prospects and developing kids for the long haul not just “winning now”- which you should be at this age) is number 99 who would benefit the most from that type of environment if he is dedicated to soccer and no other sports.

I mean, that is why their starters and best kids only average 20 minutes a game, right?

The 06 from WT is going to the 06 team at TA, not the 05. Big difference. The player from there coming to the 05 group will be a great addition to the training player pool.

But as to AP vs ML... a direct comparison is hard because they play different positions and have different roles with the team. AP excels at getting goals, and as a featured forward. ML is mainly a midfielder and wing (and last year he played centerback for Copa after LD left; he's the player that RF clobbered in the State Cup semis) and is an extremely smart and talented soccer player; however he's more the kid you want making passes and bringing up the ball, not receiving them. He does have a cannon for a foot and is dangerous on set pieces, but he's not a "feature forward".
And as noted before, WT doesn't really have a "feature forward". WT does have quite a few other capable midfielders, however. Cony's tried playing several of them at striker, and it hasn't really worked well--being a successful striker is a unique skillset, and one that youth soccer clubs (especially below the premier level) do not teach well at all.
From the point of view of trying to win matches (which lots of parents here care about, probably more than the coach, no matter how much we might like to wax prosaic about "player development") adding AP and losing ML (and ML will reportedly move on regardless of who comes here--congrats to him, and this shouldn't be viewed as a "trade") will fill a tremendous positional need.
From the point of view of development--position doesn't matter. What matters is that you have players of reasonably similar skill level on the team together, a good coach leading them, and a slate of opponents who will challenge them but not embarrass them.

(nice kid though!) Given that WST's defense likes to punt the ball down the field, seems like a natural fit for AP. Oh, and #99....that kid is raw! He needs more training, support and opportunities now, not TA.

Why do I doubt that this was written by a WT parent?
