    So many negative people.
The first month there will be masks then it will be summer. In RI with so few nice days do you really think families will wear sweaty masks and stay home? No. Kids will be on field and families at beaches. Can’t control the world. Quarantine the weak and the rest will get the economy AND sports going.
That sounds similarly short-sighted as the poster you are criticizing. Quarantining the weak means quarantining a whole lot of people in this country beyond just the old and obviously chronically ill.

Enjoying the beach and the fields is likely going to take careful management, widespread testing and tracking, and a willingness to accept restrictions such as quarantines if you're the one who's sick. Not giving up out of impatience so as to "leave the weak behind."

The reaction to this thread is the same reaction in the U.S. when the virus broke out in China:

        -won't happen here
        -can't be that bad

        And then reality set in...

The same will happen with these people insisting they will just got back to work and school...get ready for intermittent quarantines - stops and restarts, stop again, restart again...

You don't get it - there is no a vaccine this year, and therapeutic are TBD...our world has changed...wake up

Okay, but um we are opening the country up over the next two months. The plan is NOT to wait for a vaccine, but to be sure we have treatments and new regulations in place. The country and sports will not be shut down while they wait for a vaccine. Many people won’t even get the vaccine because they don’t want to be guinea pigs on a new vaccine. Others never get the flu vaccine anyway. We are gearing up to open up step by step, industry by industry and yes sports for youth will resume probably before the pro sports. Less people. Parents will be wearing masks, kids will use hand sanitizer, and families will be asked to space apart. It can and will be done. Protests are already starting in states. If we don’t reopen we will have a big problem. In RI most deaths are in nursing homes. Fix the nursing homes. You don’t see an outbreak of deaths among the elderly in towns. And btw not everyone has quarantined in the state including our elders.

Just listening to the Governor. Things ARE looking better. She IS planning to open things up. I think some people want to stay home. But we ARE going back to work and we are going to get back on track. She is not waiting for a vaccine. Testing has been her priority. They have been doing a great job with that. So stop the doom and gloom it actually IS getting better.

              Sorry to burst your bubble.

              Opening up means, what exactly?

It's not doom and gloom. It's science. We aren't ready to deal with this - it will be pockets here and there. Until we get real therapeutics there is no chance.

You might try to go back to school, but it will be in groups (1 group MW, 1 group TTH), no sports, temperature testing everywhere, masks, etc.

Attending school will be voluntary. Colleges will keep school closed through fall.

Wake up. And realize the world has changed forever.

Pretty sure this was about refunds. No refunds. There will be soccer. Sadly some people are so over the top afraid I wonder if they have anxiety disorders. We will get through this and refunds won'r be needed because the clubs will do the right thing and offer credit to the next season.

                  Economic Realities will prevail

Most colleges can't afford not to have on campus classes; profit margins are highest in the room and board stream. Plus, think faculty like teaching on-line; many at the private schools don't teach full loads - research, committee work, etc. When that goes away and the schools want them to teach full loads, they'll be screaming to get back.

K-12 - another story; teachers' union pushing for cancel; why not? Asynchronous teaching is easier - not saying some teaches aren't doing a great job or trying hard, but distance learning really exposes the "have and have not" in public education at so many levels from tech access and familiarity to teaching and more.

Plus, most towns are struggling; sure the $2T is going to give a lift, but that well - especially the Fed's ability to monetize it, is pretty dry (good luck smiling Joe trying to promise more free stuff). The bottom line is for a lot of reasons we as a society can't afford the status quo beyond I'd say June, maybe July.

Sure, somethings might give (nursing homes) and there will be flare ups -- but take even our M/W - you can try to clean sure, but it's more in for a penny, in for a pound at this point. H1N1 - there were 60.8 million H1N1 cases, with 274,304 hospitalizations and 12,469 deaths in the U.S. alone - two waves.

The difference is that hit young people more -- this hits old/compromised more. You may have things like reserved hours for older people, etc. but let's face it; how many Americans can afford beyond 3 months to live without a paycheck - you can't have your mortgage/rent, loans, etc. be on hold forever - those are other people's income.

At some point - sooner than later, we'll decide the overall cost is less to open than stay like this.

Many colleges are taking a wait and see approach, especially State colleges.things are already getting better. Governor opening state up little by little starting in May. It’s going to be ok.

No they haven't. They can afford to no doubt, but they aren't going to lean that far forward at this point.

                          RI soccer talk

                          Hi,
I'm curious about the original question. Is anyone asking their clubs for (partial) REFUNDS?

Or are we all just paying for a season, coaching, field rentals and games we did not receive.

If you play for a club that plays in the NEP, they are working on a plan to play the “spring” season in June and July. Your coach or DoC should have addressed that with you.

We have not heard from our club re a plan for over a month.

And its unrealistic to think there will be sports played in June. Reports in RI are that early June we will see parks re open, but groups of organized sport and play in June? Not going to happen.

What I don't understand is why clubs are not saying, "If we loose the season we are working on a refund." Yet they are not paying fields or coach's!

Everyone, ignore this troll. I work at Brown and we haven't even cancelled the second summer session yet. There's no way the administration would cancel fall before the absolute last minute, they need the revenue too badly.
