That is precisely why those who claim the top of D3 is just as competitive as D1 and that they send their kids there because they value education so much are a little warped. If they are willingly paying to send their kid into this type of situation just to play a little soccer, they are more than a little nuts. Nothing wrong with hanging up the cleats and just focusing on being a student.
Oh the D1 Crowd. Wake up! Soccer in the NEC and MAAC suck, as do most of the schools based academic standards. Princess is not that special because they ride the bench on low D1 school that would get beat by quite a few higher academic D3 schools.

You obviously never played any sport at the collegiate level as kids getting a bunch of money do not sit the bench. They either keep getting PT or our forced out. You know so little just stop posting....

One thing such thing that a lot of teams do is have team bonding time like over lunch. Doesn't count in anything but its still a time commitment unique to being an athlete on a team. Other things that are hugely variable are time in the training room and meeting. Huge time is spent in both. Another thing few people think about is the impact the size of the campus can half. If it takes you a half an hour to get from your dorm room to the locker room each round trip is an hour of non productive time where you could either be studying or sleeping. Both become a desired thing.
What f*cking campus takes 1/2 hr to walk from the dorm to the locker room?! Most healthy people could walk a couple miles or more in a 1/2 hr. Are we going to start counting how many sh*ts they need to take while at the locker room against the time they could be studying or sleeping too? Seriously, this sounds like the b*tching I hear from the laziest guy at work. He counts every minute of the day too, but wastes most of it. Your in school playing a sport you love. Quit the complaining.

They don’t throw a lot of money at the girls. Fact.

Feeling part of a team and waiting for their chance. In the meantime, enjoying the experience of being a collegiate athlete. Even being on a team regardless of amount of playing time you receive in DI is something most never get to experience. And, it looks great on your resume. Employers don't ask if you played (some might...I do), they like that you were a teammate, collegiate athlete and learned how to balance/manage your schedule.

Clearly you have never been on a big state school campus. Not every campus is equivalent to a high school like 99% of the D3’s.

A lot of schools with good academic reputations take very few that apply so being a soccer recruit is a foot in the door, even without the scholarship. Probably no different in D3.
Really depends on the gender and roster size. On the women’s side, 20 and under, most are getting significant money. 50% or more. When you start creeping over that number the average percentage starts decreasing and the numbers of non scholarship players start increasing. Just math. Even in the programs with the largest largest rosters (ie 28-30) there are only 4-5 non scholarship players. Those kids never travel with the team or ever see the field. Many don’t even dress for games. Talk about a grind with no payoff.

I agree with you completely. There maybe a few on the roster that aren’t getting but as far as anyone on the coaching staff is concerned they don’t really exist and aren’t a factor in any of the decisions making. Everyone else needs to prove their worth or move on. Given those facts it is nuts to pay to send your kid to some school just do they can sit on the bench. Doesn’t matter if it’s D1, D2 or D3. It lunacy. In this situations it’s far sane to hang up the cleats and pick the best regardless of athletic division it is in.

If you believe all 300+ women’s D1 teams are offering 50+% scholarships to 20 players, then I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

Yeah, but once you are in the door, what's keeping you from grinding it out for 4 years riding the pine? Even if you love soccer, if you never see the field, what's the point.

Why don't you educated yourself and understand that if one player gets 80 percent, not every other player.gets 80 percent. Hello. Hopefully they inherited their analytical abilities from their other parent.

Some kids get money from other sources like academics, scholarships not related to the school and tapping into other sources (for instance American legion and such) and still get a good amount of playing time.

At some point since soccer is the biggest women's sport in the world (and one of only a small few of collegiate sports - men or women - in DI has over 300 school participants), the soccer teams should be fully funded like basketball programs and football programs.

I know these are $$$ generators, but not all bball and football programs generate income.

Forgot to add, and by fully funding, I mean add a few more fully funded scholarships to the women's soccer teams (18-20).

Brag yes. Did not see any evidence of humble. Regardless, did not help out with the discussion in any way.
