"Nice job today. You looked great. I love to watch you play!"

100% innocent your honor. Was just giving positive feedback!

Maybe this has been discussed (tl;dr) but the genders in the thread subject are meaningless. Applies to appropriateness of private communications between any gender pairing when one person is an adult in position of power and the other is a minor.

Yes, of course, but you won't find many questioning a HS coach texting boys the way you will girls. No coach should be in private communications with anyone under 18 for everyon'es protection. Lots of group apps for that.

Agree. Use the group apps. Keep it open and obvious.

I think that mindset has changed with your example as well with the instances of older male and younger male abuses coming forth.

You have to be out of your mind to privately text with a high school player when there are free apps available for communicating with players.

I would think high school guidelines would be in place against such a thing.

Schools do have guidelines. Clubs should have guidelines but I suspect some do not. It's a recipe for disaster.

Sad story from Northeastern (and probably other schools he coached at). Worthwhile to have a (another) discussion with your player about taking inappropriate pictures, sharing their phone, or trusting the coach too much.

Colleges/college athletes should be careful also -

"Whenever women on Northeastern University’s track and field team walked up to the starting line during practices or competitions, prosecutors said, coach Steve Waithe had a request: to turn over their cellphones.

He needed the phones, he allegedly told the women, so he could record their form.

Instead, authorities said, the coach scrolled through their photos and forwarded explicit images to himself. Then, he allegedly created fake social media profiles to try to trick the women into sending him more private photos.

On Wednesday, federal authorities arrested Waithe, 28, and charged him with cyberstalking and wire fraud in connection with the scheme to deceive students into sending him nude and seminude pictures of themselves. Waithe was fired as a coach in February 2019 after a school investigation."

Don't high school's have a code of conduct when it comes to communicating with essentially under-age girls? Use a team app with the administration and athletic director included on every communication. Who in their right mind would privately communicate with a child and expect no repercussions. Fn creeps.
