Why does NJ ODP have multiple teams in each age bracket? I thought tryouts were for an ODP team not teams??

Everyone gets a trophy, you didn't know that?? Make a decision and just take the top players? Nope, more players, more $$ and you don't have to cut the kids politically connected.

In CT, at one point we had a large player pool, and they chose the competition team from that. However, the last few years they made the cuts at tryouts and selected the competitive team then. I think the prior approach was more of a money grab since the pool players paid the same fees and they could collect more money? Maybe NJ's state organization is looking to generate some cash to offset Covid losses?

3 teams for 09-06 age groups with max team size dropped from 24 to 20 and 2 teams for 05 and 04s.
If you listened to the meeting JG said this was done because PA isn't participating in friendlies this year and covid restrictions may cause issues with MD and DE friendlies in which case they can play each other at least.
They also said all 3 teams will be balanced instead of an A/B team and final rosters will be done after Nov training session for Dec NJ friendlies.
Personally, if they were going to add additional teams I would have liked to have seen team sizes capped at 18 instead of 20. It is a lot of time and money for playing half a game.

They should have let people know before they committed that they were going to have multiple teams. Seems more of a money grab to me. More kids same amount of money!

If it really is 16 for 3 teams then it would be about the same as they usually max at with 2.
