This is the Iran treaty guy. Dude, read the link to the article that was posted on this thread from Stars and Stripes, plenty of examples Reading really is fundamental. You should try it.

The article is spot on, making three points of emphasis.

      1. US NS coaches have always emphasized a squad of 1 v 1 attacking players. It’s been that way for ages. They’d rather take a squad of 18 forwards and try to convert players than take a player that is a true defender. Defends well. Reads the game well. Isn’t flashy but certainly has a nice touch and can connect passes and build.

      2. Recent years have seen the US NS veer away from the ECNL in an effort to draw kids into the US sponsored GDAP. The article mentions a couple of those players. I believe MF took a squad of non-ECNL players and had her doors blown in a year or two ago. Left the field in tears.

      3. The NS is largely a bunch of failed college and youth coaches. Even JE at the top. She’s had some success with the NT, but UCLA didn’t become the dominant program they are now until she left. AH was fired from 3 high profile college jobs for being terrible. And ends up in this position?

The solution is simple. Clean house with the National Staff. Place less emphasis on licensing and the buddy system and get some fresh blood in there. Improving the identification system will only work if the people at the top of the food chain change the way they think and what they are looking for. Develop a residential program so the coaches can work with the players more often than they currently do. The problem isn’t with the clubs or college. It’s at the top and hopefully AH getting canned will start a chain reaction to clean out the swamp.

speed, just like all the other things is an asset. the issue is not speed and athleticism, which so many of these takes seem to want to turn into an either or with IQ,vision and technical ability, but HOW we create and develop players and for waht purpose.

ask yourself why these kids you suggest are so limited DOMINATE the sport here even in College? Then ask yourself who has anny incentive to break that down and gear things towards International soccer?

heck, when the GDA changes the sub rules, we are up in arms because it does not replicate College and apparently hurt recruiting. the disconnect is that the US game including College is NOT a fair representation of the International game AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS and the skill sets needed to play that way.

Can the US win playing the way it does ? yes. Is it a clash in styles vs some countries, yes

Could we do a better job of selection? Yes

If we want to change the types of players we develop, then the system has to do that. Action usually follows incentives. If highly technical passing soccer was dominating, then we would develop more players like that.

go look at the womens top 10 on TDS or USS Coaches . Ask yourself how many of those teams are playing progressive intelligent passing soccer. I bet not many.
we play our style because unlike other countries we are self reliant and to a point isolated- when our kids are young and go to a tournament -its in New jersey they play basically the same way the kids from new york ,CT ,PA play-when a kid from spain goes and plays he goes to southern France, they dont play the way they play in spain or probably even the way they play in Northern France - all of those styles get morphed and adopted
same thing with the different Euro leagues-they all play different styles
Americans are very direct and so is our soccer
doesnt make it bad just makes it different- the results determine wether its effective or not

That is a huge gap in the system. Getting together now and then in wholly insufficient. It isn't the only issue, but is a big one.

USSF has the money. Where there's a will there's a way. USSF lacks management that cares and can get things done.

The younger ages might be a mess, but there isn’t a team within spitting distance of the senior team right now. Concacaf is a mess, but this team is going to steam roll the 2019 WC.

There is at least one. It's in MN at a private school.

i dont think they will. the US public have a horrible tendency to overrate thier team based on the steady diet of home games vs teams who are FAR inferior. Netherlands, France, Australia,England, Germany on foreign soil are a completely different animal .

Steam rolling over CONCACAF nations is hardly a predictor of future outcomes.

Agree. St joes a couple years ago could have placed in that region.

I could pull together a team of st joes alumni and current players that would probably win it

On the women's side? Check the scores of the US senior team vs ANY country in the world over the past 4 years and let me know which one is winning the series. Sorry Chicken Little, an occasional lapse vs France or Sweden in a friendly on a tuesday night in October (in a year where no major tournaments are happening) does not mean the sky is actually falling.
