I guess enough families see it for what it is, which means they can't field full teams.

Lurker here. Hi.
It is true that GPS is technically HSC, but GPS has completely taken over club soccer in Newberg, with the intention of partnering with the park and rec program to be a feeder to GPS Newberg. To answer a question earlier in the thread, the famous Portland 03G team parents paid the 50k charter fee, which means that the teams in Newberg get largely ignored. Not surprising, considering MJ dropped Newberg like a hot potato a couple years ago. Newberg has something like 70% of GPS Oregon players, though that number will change once IFC is officially GPS, but it's the Portland teams they promote heavily and the Portland teams they provide keeper/striker training to. I suspect it's because MJ doesn't like losers, and the Newberg teams are not exactly known for being incredible. Also, MJ has ceased communication with a Newberg elementary school looking to put in a turf field for recess. There was serious discussion of GPS corporate paying half, then GPS teams would then have free and unfettered access to said field for practices. (Newberg teams are currently practicing in gyms due to lack of useable field space.) The school is ready to install now, they just need the funds. But since MJ has quit talking to the school's representative, nothing is happening. Typical. MJ talks a big game but doesn't follow through.
Not sure what the point of arguing whether or not GPS is an actual club or just a HSC partner. Aside from the name there is zero link between HSC and the Newberg teams, or HSC and the Portland teams.
