Iraqis know that the taciturn general was key to the long, grinding campaign that defeated ISIS.

Two months ago President Donald Trump was quick to take credit for the looming defeat of ISIS when Raqqa, ISIS' de facto capital in Syria, fell to US-backed forces. Trump asserted that ISIS hadn't been defeated earlier because "you didn't have Trump as your president."

Saadi seemed genuinely puzzled when asked if he had noticed any changes in American support during the more than two years that he had been leading the Iraqi fight against ISIS. Saadi said, "There was no difference between the support given by Obama and Trump."
      A matter of opinion.

former senior military commander in the region told the Washington Examiner that the Obama White House was micromanaging the war "to the degree that it was just as bad, if not worse, than during the Johnson administration." Johnson, you will recall, once bragged that "they can't bomb an outhouse in Vietnam without my permission."

Contrast this with Trump. Rather than talk endlessly about how long and hard the fight would be, Trump said during his campaign that, if elected, he would convene his "top generals and give them a simple instruction. They will have 30 days to submit to the Oval Office a plan for soundly and quickly defeating ISIS."

Once in office, Trump made several changes in the way the war was fought, the most important of which were to loosen the rules of engagement and give more decision-making authority to battlefield commanders.

Joshua Keating, writing in the liberal commentary site Slate, noted that Trump had "instructed the Pentagon to loosen the rules of engagement for airstrikes to the minimum required by international law, eliminated White House oversight procedures meant to protect civilians, and ordered the CIA to resume covert targeted killing missions." (He meant it as a criticism.)

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, who can hardly be called a Trump lap dog, praised what he said was "a dramatic shift in a very positive way — away from the political micromanaging of the Obama years to freeing up generals and troops to destroy ISIS."

The result of this shift seems pretty obvious. In July, ISIS was booted from Mosul, and this week Raqqa was liberated. For all intents and purposes, ISIS has been defeated. Trump did in nine months what Obama couldn't in the previous three years.

Trump's critics will insist that victory was inevitable, given that Obama had severely degraded ISIS over the previous years, and that all Trump did was continue Obama's strategy.

But the bottom line is that while Obama preached patience, Trump promised a swift end to ISIS, and then delivered on it.

Trump hired General "Madog" Mattis and let him loose. He's got ISIS so scared they're converting to Christians in droves.

" wait and see " is all about Obama.
The truth speaks for itself. I didn't write it, and it is one of many similar opinions.
The current MSM, and you seem to be an avid believer is 90 % negative on Trump. Hardly a story or feature on any accomplishment. Even the tax Bill, saying it is a gift to the rich when all the Coastal Elites upper class are all crying in their soup because they live in such highly taxed states, where they change zoning laws to keep their little enclaves. It is a big plus for the majority of Americans, but all we hear is gloom and doom about a " projected deficit". Nothing projected about the more than $ 5 trillion added to the national Debt by Obama, and the $ 2.5 trillion dollar budget deficit that Obama and Pelosi . Progressives had no problem with that one as the MSM kept cheering them on.

It's more like $9-10trillion added under Obama. 2017 is Obama's budget so we'll have to see where this year lands to add it all up.

It's hilarious how MSM is now all concerned about the debt but when Obama was adding a trillion plus per year (not over 10 years like the tax plan) they where mum.

Only most of that was added to get the economy back on track after Bush f'd it up, and it had bipartisan support.

Now you really don't know what you're talking about. There was a bitter fight for every annual budget. Obama wanted to spend more but republicans had the house for part of his presidency and then all of congress and forced Obama's hand to spend less. Obama was caught in the republican's sequestration trap. Look it up and educate yourself. There were several times where the government came close to shutting down over budget fights. Stock market was extremely volatile during those times.

Bush had little to nothing to do with the financial meltdown it was mainly driven by Democrats wanting to loosen mortgage requirements for the poor. I fault Bush for not stepping in earlier and protecting the public from a somewhat obvious housing bubble.
