This 'happening' of private trainers also coaching in the DA is merely a byproduct of the (private trainers) choice to work for GW and the DA's ridiculously low coaching stipend.

These fellas don't have jobs in the real world and coaching in the Timbers/Thorns DA has been positioned as an 'honor' to them by GW coupled with the fact the Timbers/Thorns don't have any type of living wage salary available for them other than a modest coaching 'stipend'.

So, these fools are left to either get real jobs, that won't work around the DA training schedules. So, they came up with their own answer get paid to train these kids off the books & not during DA trainings in their attempt to earn a living wage.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Sick stuff indeed.

Or fly a coach and his family up from Brazil, have him privately train your kid for a year or so, use connections and $$ to convince Timbers to add him to staff at your kid's birth year, and your kid gets instant invite to academy team. Investment pays off.

You know, you wouldn't be surprised if a local club did these types of things but for our only professional club in the area to do this? Sad.

I get that the Timbers Academy is in its infancy compared to a FC Dallas but you'd think you would look at the success of an academy like that and want to emulate them. Believe it or not there are enough players in our area to develop 3-4 MLS homegrown players each year. The Timbers Academy is only good at creating an environment where kids quit the academy at a rate of 12-17 each year. These kids are quality players. We need another DA Program in the PDX Metro Area

The seven little DAs are hoping one of them will get magically selected to continue the program on at the u15 single birth year. Who should it be? What DA has done the best job of developing those players? And I don't mean scouting and poaching.. I mean actual next level development? Rating from top to bottom:

Westside Timbers
FC Portland
Crossfire
Washington Timbers
Capital
Eastside Timbers
BSC

??

In the last 15 years only one of those clubs has produced multiple MLS Top Draft choices & direct to Europe pros. Not to mention a host of YNT regulars and even 1 USMNT player.

This club has no interest in becoming a full fledged DA program, it makes no sense for this market. As they have alone have produces more top players than an entire state in the last 15 years. It is what it is.

This club has been approached numerous times to become part of the DA and says no thanks.

You are living in the past. There are currently several boys from the Timbers DA involved in National team programs from different age groups. None of them are boys that came from westside.

Like Adrian Villegas.. Westside Timbers Product a member of a present day competing YNT.

Past Behavior is the Best Predictor of Future Behavior

Who are Past Portland Timbers DA national team players that are products of other clubs in the area. Please list. It would be great if other clubs could step up and supply some pros or nat team players.

Thanks
