Default 80% of Boys Academy players are privately trained by academy staff...

W T F?
How is that ethical? There are players in the Academy that don't belong there. They are there because they are privately trained by PTFC Staff

Does anyone have closer experience of this?

80% a bit of an exaggeration yes?

could it be the coaches see something in a player you don't? Are you an expert and in selecting tough talent? Whats your point of this post?

I think the point is, if true this is deplorable and unacceptable behavior. If academy coaches are accepting money for training kids they choose for select teams then those kids are at an extremely unfair advantage. This isn't ok. Parents taking part in this are to blame also.

Our Alliance club has a firm policy. Coaches can do private lessons but not for players they coach. But as usual the academy teams are above the rules.

Makes sense. Too bad other clubs don't follow those rules.

Bigger picture question is why are players paying for extra training outside of the supposed "top notch" academy system or specific club? Ponder that.

A well run club doesn't allow coaches to train their own players. It wreaks of favoritism even if only perceived. Doesn't matter if it's DA or not - it shouldn't be allowed

The OP made a point basically saying the only way to make the academy is by paying for training. Then the rest of you jumped on that and said thats terrible. Well, the original statement is dead wrong. Are there playing that did training with the coaching staff and made the team yes. But far fewer then 10%.

This sounds like sour grapes
