Default How did thornz acad end up such a mess?

OYSA games don't count.
FWRL games don't count.
Beaverton cup is embarrassing.

How did someone think this was a good idea?

If you knew the parents that eagerly signed on, you wouldn't be asking. Let's just say it's a group with low priorities on academics and information.

It's become repeatedly obvious that the only ones in here posting about this are ECNL parents who are sour about there being another option to attract the talent. Get over it already!

What's there to be sour about? Thorns Academy obviously didn't attract any talent away from ECNL. Hard to imagine the Thorns will even be competitive in OYSA, playing down a year.

Not at ECNL club, but not thrilled with how Thorns Academy was marketed . . .

Timbers used their relationship with OYSA inappropriately to try to market their program, IMO. Specifically telling families that ALL OYSA clubs sending their best players to Thorns, a completely false statement. Think that affected non-ECNL clubs more than ECNL clubs.

Yes but wait there's more. Then they take that team and use it to pummel their old OYSA teams. Then their parents come on Talking-soccer and brag about it. Stay classy, Thorns academy.

Default same way ACA did

Thorns academy "became a mess" the same way The Affordable Care Act did.

The Powers That Be decided they liked the status quo more than what's best.

What the Timbers told families (that clubs supported players leaving their existing team to go play for Thorns) was false.

What clubs were told - that Timbers could run these leagues/cups without conflicts - was also false.

Ultimately families get to decide what clubs they support and clubs get to decide what leagues they support; let them make the decision but don't mislead them.
