Very true. They also shouldn't restrict playing against local competition. If there's a quality local team to play they should play them. Restrictive sub rules are anti development. Yes PT should be earned but some players never play and their development can flatline. Of course USSF doesn't care about more than a few 100.players nation wide. So then they should either take Developmentout of their name or pull the ones they care aboutand train them separately

Don't laugh. A lot of those players are showing up in college rosters. Yes it's a small country that can better execute a good plan, but it starts with a good plan and good management to execute it. We have none of that

If at age 7, everybody wins, then why bother to try? Why not allow the best kids to compete at a higher level than the weaker kids? It doesn't matter who wins. But keep score because the kids do. Compete every week for a spot on the best teams.

Since game results on a regular basis wouldn't matter using my model (meaning no formalization), let everyone play different positions. For the 'real games', (monthly for younger ages?) match teams by level on a regular basis so the competition is always high.

Then go play in tournaments to win once in a while.
This is really the unintended consequence of all the anti bullying efforts in school where they literally punish and drug away any sign of aggressiveness. That’s what is killing youth sports. You can’t even teach a simple concept because the kids don’t understand why they might to win in a drill so they turn the drills into little more than choreographed dance steps that they go through the motions completing.

They should abandon the idea of teams in favor of training pools and then rotate kids into game at various levels according their quality compared to the quality of the completion. Should only send 13-14 to a game so everyone gets plenty of playing time

The soccer association gets TV money and they invested significant money into facilities and training for players and COACHES.

There are very few now coaching in the club ranks that aren’t somewhat qualified.
Dad coaches are the minority. There may be good and bad, but overall quality is up exponentially over just a few years ago.
It is still the responsibility of the athlete to better themselves. They are far too busy to devote the time and effort needed. Until this changes, it is status quo.

Kids in iceland can and do play - most of them play. They have a place, a coach and it is not a big business that excludes kids by cost. They most definitely are are not wasting any time and resources flying the kids around on planes to teach them to play excellent soccer. They do this all with the population equal to a mid sized american CITY (not state - city)
