Our ECNL team has three commits to east coast schools. Do whatever you want for your kid. But don’t try to convince others that your path is what “everyone” is doing.

There are posters on here that think local colleges with over 80% admission rates are academically elite schools so don't expect them to understand a girl going out east to school. Why go to Princeton or Brown when you can compromise on low soccer to go to elite academic schools like Southern Oregon, Concordia Portland or George Fox?

Please update the list below as needed. I am sure that it has changed and some are unaccounted for. If your argument is that the Thorns commits formerly played ECNL or OYSA, ask yourself why they left? If the ECNL is so elite, why are they not dominating below? Based on the rhetoric from the previous posters in multiple threads, you would think that there is a clear advantage to the ECNL but the #'s do not support this argument. Seems like there are at least three good options for girls in the Portland metro area. Anyone arguing against any of the three probably are employed by one of the other clubs/academies or are a frustrated parent trying to justify the $ that they are shelling out. The truth is that everyone listed below should be proud. Naysayers can continue with their miserable existence.

And FWIW my DD has a friend doing Friendship Cup this weekend. I asked her dad if he saw any college coaches there. He seemed surprised I would even ask and said this is a fun loca tournament - not a college showcase event. So I guess that means zero coaches are there except a few who happen to be coaching participating teams.
Friendship Cup was one of the most disappointing tournaments/showcases I’ve ever been a part of. Clash At the border is better.

Both of your comments hold zero weight.

friendship cup is over 30 years running and is a great level event for our area.

Clash at the border has actually grown into the top tournament in the PDX area and some would argue that it is on a path to rival Crossfire Challenge. I’ve been closely watching all of the tournaments in the area to see which one could become the premier tournament in pdx metro. At one point I thought it could be Mt. Hood Challenge but being that their tournament is 6 games in 48 hours people have figured out that it is a waste.

Most of the local college coaches were at the Friendship Cup. Agree that our Oregon colleges aren’t much to brag about for soccer nor for academics but these collages are where the majority of girls in gda, ecnl & end up going. A bunch of friendly games with coaches from the local schools where the majority of the players will be going on a nice weekend. Sounds pretty good. Parents bash Friendship Cup and then come on here bragging about their players commuting to Southern Oregon, Concordia & George Fox. All those coaches were at Friendship Cup. As unimpressive as they may be, those type of schools are the norm for girls from all three leagues. The rare Oregon commits are to schools like Cal, Georgetown & Swarthmore. The level of player and academics it takes to get into those schools is rare, should be applauded and is the result of that individual player’s talents and hard work, not the league they played in.

Nice giving credit to Thornz Asylum for girls that committed while playing ECNL and just wanted an easy rec-level experience for their senior year of HS.

Nice giving credit to Ecnl when those kids came from TA clubs and hated their experience at their Ecnl teams for a year to then go to thorns..

Why give the credit to the clubs? Did they offer the scharships? How about;well done ladies, all your hard work and dedication paid off. Thank you parents for paying the club’s bills, driving the girls around, making the highlight videos, help draft the emails to schools, paying for private training, being a team manager, and having the backs of your children.

Not well educated parents don’t realize Oregon colleges aren’t very high level academically. This is a soccer forum for soccer crazy parents so if they want to believe little Suzie is an academic and soccer star to go to Southern Oregon and such, then let them enjoy. Parents delusions hurt no one else. Biggest soccer congratulations to Oregon’s soccer elite for commits to ND, Cal, Georgetown, OSU, UO, AZ, UP, UTAH and Gonzaga. Biggest academic congratulations to the players going to ND, Georgetown, CAL, Swarthmore, Pitzer & the like. Congratulations too to all the other Oregon girls going to any college, even CC and following their dreams to play soccer in college.
