Personally feel that everyone should pay the same but I'm not US Soccer. However, then you won't get the best players developed. The effects of pay-to-play start very young. If the goal is really to develop the best soccer players then sliding scales should be used from the youngest ages. Without help from the youngest ages, it will mostly only be the wealthiest kids that move up through our pay to play system.

Exactly the reason DA has failed and GDA will fail in their alleged goal to level the playing field and make elite soccer accessible to all. By the time you get to the DA/GDA ages, they've had to go through years of pay to play with clubs and RTC/ODP. you've lost the poor kids years ago. If GDA truly wanted to level the playing field, they would start with sliding scale soccer at ULittles/RTC. But of course we all know that's not their real goal. Their true motive is to run ECNL out of town and get that big fat cash cow all to themselves. So in the meantime a bunch of wealthy kids get practically free soccer and GDA has you actually believing that's "leveling the playing field."

I think your comments are off base. I will agree that the current system is broke and needs some refinement, but there are families of all income levels playing in the DA/GDA.

The DA/GDA and RTC/ODP offer scholarships to those in need to help those families with the financial burden. If kids truly want to play the game, programs are in place for those that can't afford to play the game even when they are Ulittles. Financial assistance is available at many local clubs to help those families. These clubs are non-profit and want to help those who really want to play the game. Parents just need to apply.

There are other obstacles that come into play other than the financial piece. Many families can't find the time to get players to and from practice locations. Practice times and location often change making it difficult for families to adjust and plan with work and other children. Families and players get tired of spending more time in the commute to practice than practicing itself. Sacrifices are made in terms of time, money, high school sports, social life and school that make DA/GDA too difficult of a commitment for most.

It's not just a bunch of wealthy kids getting free soccer. It's a bunch of kids who choose soccer over everything else who are lucky enough to have committed parents or family/friend structure in place to make it work. It's a sacrifice on all who participate (players and families) so please stop demeaning the value of it.

Not demeaning value just questioning the logic. Why would you give up everything fun about HS age to be better at soccer. ( and the better at soccer part of this equation is debatable ) Why would you give up HS experience, friends hanging out and belonging to various peer groups for a sport? Why make this family commitment when this kind of a commitment isn't needed to go to next level? It seems odd that people would go all in like this.
