For those of you unfamiliar with some history...

NEP was formed because some clubs were not happy with the way MAPLE was run and the league did not implement some suggestions for improvement. The league (NEP) is run by the clubs, not a few people as was the case with MAPLE. Once the larger clubs joined (NEFC, Stars), there was enough issues with US Youth that the clubs (not league) decided to affiliate with US Club and not participate in any US Youth leagues or events (State Cups).

This led to the affiliation with NPL and the rest is history...

$ is the cause of the proliferation and money going to club owners. Let's not make it about anything else except power. Money and power.

Then you have a few options:

        1) Keep contributing
        2) Stop contributing
        3) Start your own league
        4) Whine like a 6-year old

Well, in part you are correct. However, for the most part, the NEP was formed by MPS/GPS along with the Bolts. While the former was seeing the end of the Super Y league, the latter realized that their non academy teams would not be able to compete with the other clubs and that would not be good for the image.
The good things for the clubs, in the NEP is that the coaches decide which teams are in which divisions and get to make sure that each of the clubs has an NPL team....or teams in the top divisions. As the club grows, the simply make two top divisions.

Funny thing is, while GPS is able to compete in the top divisions, the nonDAP teams from the Bolts are not. So, the Bolts now have the boys ECNL in which they can claim that the losses are against top clubs that are better than the NPL teams.

Yes.....MAPLE could have been run better, but it was clean: you win and you stay up. You lose and the team is relegated.
The problem with MAPLE is that, at the young ages, it shouldn't be all about winning. For the younger age groups the NEP format works very well with small sided games.

Don't be fooled by all this fluff. I don't believe for a moment that whether there is one league or two leagues in MASS has any kind of an impact on the development of soccer. The kids need to practice each day and have additional athletic training A residency program is the answer.....but then, how do kids get there and who pays..

Not sure of the logistics (how many teams to get through) but you could start it in early Fall with lower teams and gradually bring in NEP, then NPL, ECNL & DA teams after further rounds. Would work similar to the FA Cup, or any open Cup competition.
Why would DA teams want to waste their time doing this when they could be playing other DA teams?

Frankly I don’t think it would be a waste of time if structured properly, just ask a Wigan fan if playing the big boys (Man City) in the FA cup is a waste of time.

                      So it's only about winning?

No, not at all. Most times the underdog FA cup teams don’t win. It’s just about the chance to compete against better competition if earned through a playoff system. Probably will never happen but it’s fun to ponder.

No...for the 'wigan' team it is about having nothing to lose and for the Man U team it is about saving face.
The only reason why a non-DAP teams wants to play and ? beat or come close to beating a DAP team is so the parents can brag about it on TS

Given how the Revs are doing lately it seems many teams could beat them

Quite frankly I agree. What’s the point of having a fancy car if you can’t drive it to show it off. Seriously, if you are not trying to build a world class player (which we know 99% of club parents wouldn’t even dream of ... RME) then what’s all the “development” for? At some point you need to turn the kids loose and let them play otherwise they never learn how to do it properly. That’s half the problem with soccer in this country, we treat it like school instead of a game that is supposed to be won. I think s national open cup would be great.

Why should Premier teams waste their times playing Championship teams? Because the fun of the draw, and to help with a completely open system. They still have their DA schedule, this would be an additional # of games over a potentially 10-month period (if they keep winning).

                                What are you afraid of?

Winning is a part of development. Learning how to win, and how to lose, all goes into the sauce. It's not the main ingredient, but it is necessary.
