Check out your local district's budget lines for substitute costs and transportation. Yes, salaries and benefits are 65-70% of the budget, but sub costs are huge given the generous (and yes, they are generous in most places) sick and leave policies.

But the bottom line - country just had $3T deficit and what,$25T in debt? It's not a SouthPark with Kyle's credit card (google the episode if you don't watch that series) - sooner than later we have to face the realities of the costs of not opening up. Sure, we can be smart, but crazy some of these places that think the government will just take care of everyone for a year..

Governments could yell ‘open up’ and cancel every restriction and everyone with a brain in their head wouldn’t just go back to the pre-Covid days. Our office opened up 2 weeks ago and and shut right back down when someone got Covid. Owner said don’t expect to go into the office until 2021 after that. Everybody is scared both of the virus and getting laid off and justifiably so.

We didn’t get to $25T national debt overnight, but between Trump’s tax cuts that added $3T in just the last 3 years and the $2-3T Covid giveaways, we’re in trouble. Opening up isn’t going to fix that right now.

Tax revenue went UP after the tax cuts. The problem is, and always has been, out of control spending.

If schools are doing a hybrid schedule, fall sports can absolutely happen given the go ahead from MIAA and the state. I am a public high school teacher and this very thing was discussed in a meeting this week.

Hahahahahahaha! How much is the new PPE going to cost? Labor costs around cleaning? New HVAC? Video capabilities?

School sports are about 178th on the list of priorities.

You're a teacher for a reason and not an administrator.

Just stop. Outdoor fall sports are happening whether you are in your basement or not.

                  You

                  Just

                  Don’t

                  Get

                  It

Of course kids can play sports outside.

                  But

Schools can barely afford the vital things necessary to teach. That means there is no money for athletics.

                  It’s the money dummy.

Then the parents will have to pay a little extra to protect this absolutely vital part of youth.

Sorry but that’s not how planning a high school season works. Also, parents can be cheapskates.

Most districts had huge savings leftover from last year due to the shutdown (utilities, buses, etc). And many will have additional savings this year if they go to a hybrid schedule where kids aren't in school 5 days a week. Yes some of that savings would be allocated toward new expenses but they should easily offset. Add that to the fact that all existing school sports are ALREADY budgeted. This is another fabricated hurdle.

                        Dummy.

Congress is looking at 100 billion to help schools, most for k-12.
That is a lot of f-ing mask.

How many threads can you comment on about cancelling HS sports? It's painful. You must be the same person that incessantly commented on GPS. Go away.

The economy needs to open. Schools need to open. It's not mentally healthy for kids to be secluded from their friends and locked in a house. Covid rates aren't increasing in MA.

                            The sky is not falling.

Wear a mask, wash your hands and keep your distance from other people. Lets get to the end of the year when a vaccine will begin to be released to the highest risk people.

Where do you think I got the information? It was from the superintendent. And what, may I ask, is the reason I am a teacher and not an administrator? You don’t even know me.

Okay we need to seriously discuss this topic. Because IF our kids are stuck on ZOOM meetings and Google classroom all fall they need sports more than ever for physical health and social outdoors where it is safe.
This is for all ages. The last thing that should be taken away is the kids sports.
