So what is a HS coaches job then? Win games! Ridgefield has played a lot of games and won most of them the last 6 years. The probably played an extra 2 seasons in those 6 years between all the FCIAC tournament and ciac state tournament games.

S'ton returns most of their team which surprised everyone by getting as far as they did LY, and for GHS the graduation of their AA midfielder who came up clutch in the LL semifinals last year figures to be offset by the return of several academy players and GHS' go to scorer from last year would also be back (was only a junior LY). The regular season meeting between those two (scheduled tentatively for Friday October 16 if it happens) could be the game of the year since most of the bigger names on St. Joe's schedule figure to take a step back this year. And who wouldn't want a finals rematch after last year's game? As a GHS fan, it doesn't get any better than what happened last year- winning a championship on the anniversary of the saddest day in our history (Nov 23 2012), albeit against a different opponent.
Feel bad for Guilford which coming off an L title now has a new coach and would now have to compete with an FCIAC powerhouse in Class L to repeat. LL was loaded last year and just because STJ lost a narrow decision to another FCIAC power in the quarters doesn't mean they aren't good enough for LL. They did win LL in '13. But the CIAC has their own way of working those things out with the "success factor."

How exactly has the Greenwich girls soccer program fallen so far, so fast in the last four or so years? Hard to believe there was actually a time when they used to be a top half team and consistent contender in FCIACs and states every year. And they are doing well in other sports- boys soccer made it as far as the LL final last year and football is of course a power, so hard to understand why they have fallen to near the bottom of the conference standings on the girls side.

As I said in last year's FCIAC thread though, don't think that should effect DF's overall legacy there too much- he still won a lot there in his early years. Last year in R.P.'s first year, it was obviously going to be an uphill battle and they were on the wrong end of many lopsided scores. This year since Trinity is no longer around as a pretty much guaranteed win, it could get worse....or since they are in the second year of the new coach's system, maybe it could actually get a little better? Hard to predict.
