One of the stories notes that subpoenas were sent to some prep schools to see if they assisted (probably to see how the learning disabilities were handled and the SATs). Just a guess, but this thing seems to have no bottom right now. This is massive and on-going.

Some amazing stuff in this; daughter was on the thank you email to Singer when she was accepted into UCLA. Can't duck that one and claim no knowledge as to what parents were doing.

All the kids that got fake learning disability designations knew cheating was going on to get better SAT scores. Every one of those fake learning disability students should be kicked out of college immediately. Any that have graduated, need to have their diplomas rescinded. If they don’t come down hard on the students, this will never stop! If you help your parents steal a car, you all go to jail. If your parents steal a car and give it to you, you don’t have to go to jail but you have to give the car back. Give the admission spots and any diplomas back! Cheaters should never prosper.

Agreed this is a huge issue. It's obviously too easy to bribe proctors to either 1) look the other way with student IDs 2) have proctors change answers. Not sure what to do about #1 but clearly more needs to be done. On #2 the simple answer is sheets go straight into a locked box.

I agree those who are in currently should be booted. Their applications were fraudulent. Revoking diplomas is a tougher call. If they completed the work, even if with a low GPA, they still did the work. Of course with some of these families no doubt the cheating continued - pay someone to write papers for you, have others take a test in a huge class of 300 people where a professor doesn't know you from Adam. Some of the kids probably dropped out too, unable to keep up with the academics because they never should have been there to begin with.

There was one "prep" school (quotes intentional as it looked like an absolute dump) that was involved with something like half of the LA test cheating indictments. The head of school took $ to have cheaters take their exams there. No doubt Singer funneled other test cheaters to certain schools where his bribed proctors worked. When you take the ACT/SAT you can chose the location, which is limited. It isn't given at every so you have to pick your location.

Got it. Saw the note about 40 pages of searching. Thought it was in something else.

From the article in the LA Times:

"Federal authorities have said the investigation is ongoing but have not provided details.

Several elite Southern California prep schools have received subpoenas from prosecutors seeking information about some of the students involved in the fraud case. Although the prep schools are not targets of the investigation, prosecutors want to know whether any parents or others accused in the case sought or received help from the schools, sources told The Times."

Some high schools, could be involved as well.

This is absolutely sickening what is being uncovered. And the amounts spent are astounding.

Yale had already announced that of the two kids he recently tried to get through, one had never been admitted (does the family get their bribe back :)) and the other's admission had been rescinded. Both he and the Singer have cooperated with the Feds, melted like butter on high heat.

Read a recent article in the NY Times that most of the high ranking schools have all tightened their admissions even for non-athletes because of this. Tough one Johnny and Janie. Maybe go learn a trade instead.

On a separate note, will the Ivies stop giving an academic tip to athletes who cannot get in on their own? Probably not.
