Can the OPL Support a league?

Considering that the best OPL girls are going to play ECNL and that the top boys teams are starting to play in the OYSA league, can the OPL still present a viable league this Winter and beyond.

Yes, if you define "viable" as "no worse than OYSA".

I hope so, who the hell wants to drive to Medford and Bend in the middle of winter for a stupid league game that really means nothing??

        Agreed.

Another OYSA pandering thread? Can't really attack ECNL directly, so now you have resorted to a more passive / aggressive approach. Just stop.

the OPL is viable....remember the PML league? It was a great place for 2nd, 3rd and 4th tiered teams to play, there is a market for OPL. The OPL just replaced the PML.

The better question would be whether the TA clubs can actually form HS aged girls divisions. Not a lot of talent left there.

PML never went away. It was just renamed Thorns Premier.

PML made it 12 years and went away when OPL took over the same role.

PML was a great place for 3rd and 4th tiered teams that wanted to play local only. Sounds very similar when talking about OPL's structure. the OPL has a market, and they will make it because there are lot's of 3rd and 4th tiered teams that do not want to travel.

I'm sure OYSA looked at the PML and conceded that market to the OPL, it was a smart move.

conversely, there are 3rd and 4th Division teams that like to travel and that is where the OYSA leagues come in.

OPL and OYSA are different animals.

The big concern we have is if our new league, the ECNL, will have a semblance of competitiveness to keep from having it pulled after one year. Being laughed at is a given unless we can keep a GD of less than 4 a game. A big challenge no doubt. The epic failure that is predicted could just kill girls soccer in Oregon permanently.

The thing is, is that the ECNL teams don't need the OPL, so why keep it afloat. I guess it is just personal animosity.

I see Tom has the TS monitor morning shift. Fraser comes in at noon. Too bad they don't spend more time being DOCs and trying to make ECNL a success. They'd rather talk about it than actually do something about it.
