Think about the situation. What was the point of making the tackle? Did it help the player or a teammate advance the ball? No. Did it stop a scoring chance? No as it was in or near the opponents 18 yard box. I think you have to look at the entirety of the play. Yes the player got ball however I see it as a reckless play with a deliberate attempt to injure an opponent. Red card with a hearing about a possible suspension.

A good, hard tackle sets the tone for the game and maybe gets in the other teams heads. It is a physical and mental game. Plus, how do you know it didn't stop a scoring chance? With the longball played in high school, maybe her teams behind her were not in a position to stop the long ball to a fast player upfront.

While she may have “got ball” why do that slide tackle which had zero chance of putting the ball on goal or provide a teammate with a scoring opportunity? The result of the play was a goal kick. Plus the opposing team’s top player missed the rest of that game due to the injury and she may miss further games. Seems like an unnecessary and reckless play resulting in an injury. That is a red card.
The play was in the BC commit's defensive zone. The Nova commit was attempting to drive to the net after receiving a short corner from the other red player in the video.

          The situation?
Since when does Playing defense and attempting to disposes the opponent requires situational justification? Furthermore, my view of that play was that the opponents biggest scoring threat was in the offensive zone after a short corner and was one touch away from taking a shot on net with her right foot, and a full hip turn. Situation shouldn't matter, but if it does that's the right time to stop it.

Red card...vicious tackle with no intent other than to take out the player

Long pass to the #1 player up top is a signature move for that team (St Joes's/Nova player)

CT poster who thinks it's funny this is also being debated here

If that’s a foul then slide tackling isn’t allowed at all because it was text book. To the guy who said cleats up - that’s ridiculous if you watch the video. She tackled the ball and the forward went flying over her body. That’s perfectly fine under the rules.

ok it doesn't happen 20 times at D1 so you can stop right there and this is a red card with out a doubt the player with the ball turned and she was already in her slide

I was agreeing it was clean and the player in red was going after the short corner to try and score. Player in white (BC player) was trying to prevent her getting the ball.

You people know nothing about the Laws of the Game. Nobody cares what you think. Go back to work.

Are you serious? No it doesn't happen 20 times/game - agreed. But, really, what could possibly be wrong with a tackle like this where she clearly impacts the ball (and not just a little - she was clearly positioned to hit the ball first). If you freeze the video you'll see she doesn't even get her from the side (which maybe, maybe, you could argue was dangerous) - she's positioned in front of the player so she can tackle the ball first and then the ball carrier flies over her. You're reacting emotionally to the fact that the player went down. There's a reason the refs didn't even call a foul, let alone give a red card.
