Think about the situation. What was the point of making the tackle? Did it help the player or a teammate advance the ball? No. Did it stop a scoring chance? No as it was in or near the opponents 18 yard box. I think you have to look at the entirety of the play. Yes the player got ball however I see it as a reckless play with a deliberate attempt to injure an opponent. Red card with a hearing about a possible suspension.

While she may have “got ball” why do that slide tackle which had zero chance of putting the ball on goal or provide a teammate with a scoring opportunity? The result of the play was a goal kick. Plus the opposing team’s top player missed the rest of that game due to the injury and she may miss further games. Seems like an unnecessary and reckless play resulting in an injury. That is a red card.

Since when does Playing defense and attempting to disposes the opponent requires situational justification? Furthermore, my view of that play was that the opponents biggest scoring threat was in the offensive zone after a short corner and was one touch away from taking a shot on net with her right foot, and a full hip turn. Situation shouldn't matter, but if it does that's the right time to stop it.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostA good, hard tackle sets the tone for the game and maybe gets in the other teams heads. It is a physical and mental game. Plus, how do you know it didn't stop a scoring chance? With the longball played in high school, maybe her teams behind her were not in a position to stop the long ball to a fast player upfront.
CT poster who thinks it's funny this is also being debated here

You people know nothing about the Laws of the Game. Nobody cares what you think. Go back to work.
