Where else can you get some decent competition in town? A few teams might head south for some matches, but this is in our own back yard. Yes, the 895 a team is steep, but cheaper the flying somewhere.

Yes it's local. But you don't need a "showcase" to play in community college. If it's decent local competition, fine. We all get so wrapped up in this crap. There is very little scholarship money in womens soccer. We all know that. When will the insanity stop?

Also, women seem to have from high school and continue in college to have better GPA's than men. This results in more academic scholarships than men. Almost all colleges will allow both athletic and academic scholarships to the same player. The only exception seems to be the WCC, (UP, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, Pepperdine, etc.).
Just how did you fantasize about women's soccer not having very little scholarship money? You are quite wrong.

Secondly, how many d1 soccer programs for women are there? 400? Count 4 years of olayers versus the number of high school seniors in the entire United States?
Numbers don't lie.

There is no rule based on Divisions of how many scholarships a school will have for either Men's or Women's Soccer, and how they will be used.
Each school sets its own budget, you have probably heard someone talk about one school and now believe every school must be like that.
Second to say Women have better GPA's which results in more academic scholarships is again so full of generalization. There are some general academic scholarships at most universities, but many of them actually have very strict criteria. These have to be found and applied for.
There are very few full rides out there any more. There is still financial assistance, but usually the expectation is the student has to pay a portion as well.

Again, not a lot of D1 schools mentioned. Is there an official list you are quoting? I have only seen what FCP has on their web site. Is that what you are quoting? If it is, it would appear it is mostly local college coaches that attend (OR, WA, etc.). This is probably true of other showcases (are there any?). That might be why so many kids have ended up playing locally. Which, in turn, may make the case that your DK would need to travel to be seen by other college coaches not in the area. What clubs / teams do much traveling to the larger tourneys (Not ECNL, they obviously are having mini tourneys for league / non league matches, their own ECNL tournaments and will no doubt attempt some of the larger non-ECNL tourneys) but non ECNL teams in the PDX area, where are they going, what are they doing to ensure their players are being seen?

Second, to your question of where non ECNL teams are going, well they are going where they always have gone. The San Diego tourneys during Thanksgiving, Las Vegas, the California showcases during spring and summer, .... The ECNL teams would serve themselves well by actually being seen by local schools such as the ones that go to the FCP Showcase. There aren't many D1 level players on those teams. Those players, if they go to play in college, will mainly be going to D2, D3 and NAIA schools. In spite of their posturing on TS, going to Florida or Texas to be seen by SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Big East, ... schools is a waste of time and money. Those schools aren't interested in D2 or below level athletes that are on our ECNL teams. Just because you fly to play in Orlando and are seen by the University of Florida, doesn't mean that UF is going to make you an offer.

In fact, we have few who can play at a PSU or Montana or Seattle U level, so D2, D3 and NAIA schools make sense for many of our players. Therefore, I'm not sure why anyone would put this showcase down.

But 10 girls from a couple of different graduating classes proves my point. The ECNL rosters have up to 22 or so players on them on two teams. So 44 per graduating class. And about 5-7 have D-1 potential. The other 37 or so are D2 and below. Point proven. FCP showcase would be a much better option than flying cross country to be seen by schools who will have no interest in them. For the 5-7, it might be worth it, however the above girls got offers without having to travel cross country, so flying to California and Las Vegas seemed to be fine for them.
