To the parents of all the disenchanted and disenfranchised YNT hopefuls out there, Sermanni's failure at the Algarve Cup is proof that the NT (and by extension, the YNT) identification system is flawed, and is failing to recognize the real talent. From there, it becomes easier to rationalize how it is that the YNT system has been overlooking their little Mia.

It's not so much who they pick as how they have been trained.

Then this serves as an indictment of the entire club system. Every one of these players have come through the clubs. Their training at ynt is based upon a progression that assumes certain aspects of the game have been competently taught.
Training is the issue, however, as it has proved that the athletes being selected have been let down by their respective clubs and are not as prepared as everyone likes to think. The entire system is nothing more than a money grab that parents and dreamers are all happy to pay.

So you must have witnessed or seen all of their practices and training sessions. Please enlighten us as to what they are doing wrong

It is the majority of the clubs that are responsible. The emphasis on winning and all the accolades and trumpeting that occur from u8 on is the culprit. Nobody in this country would play the game if the proper regimen of training was followed; more training and less match play is the answer, but not much fun for kids and parents. It will never be accepted and we will never rise to the top as a result. (Similar circumstance in the education field as well.)

The reality is that even the top teams don't train enough and because of limited time available the shift to tactical play is made at the expense of technical play. Technical work should never be put on a back burner. Add in most of these girls/women are mòre likely to watch the Patriots, Bruins, or Celtics then they are to watch the top professional soccer teams play and as a result they have no real visual concept of how to play a sophisticated version of the game. Now add in most coaches are more concerned with winning than really developing players. The environment demands that they put winning first.

Did you even read posts #18 & 20
These threads would be much shorter if folks read more than just the last post before offering their opinion.

Perhaps if you weren't such a whine-bag and went with the flow, this board would be much more civil.

You are right. So many people on here appear to be uncivil. The soccer scene is full of the uncivilized. Civilians should enter this site at the risk of losing their civility. Civilization is fading away and the civilized are losing hope, just like the uswnt.

USWNT coach was fired because the country is not ready to accept the change to technically oriented soccer. He lost a few games experimenting and trying to introduce a new system and all of the nay-sayers piled on. Unfortunately, the USWNT will probably have to face a long, slow decline before they finally wake up.

I really hope this is not true, but the style of play that has been on display in recent USWNT matches -- especially from the more old guard among the players -- suggests you may be right. If you are, they will have their lunch eaten for them soon enough by the Japanese, French and others whose national team programs focus more heavily on the technical aspects of the game. Too bad really.

Isn't that what all the youth clubs are afraid off also? Win at every age/attract players
put teams in leagues like ECNL and declare them "top talent" only to realize that our
superstars of U-12 to U-16 are far inferior technically and tactically to the rest of the world
once they grow up. The guy lost a couple games, cut the old guard playing time a bit
and the morons at USSF hit the panic button.Good God! No wonder USSF can't deal with our
                            youth club infrastructure. No vision.

Before I get yelled at I have not read all the post on this form so I apologize if I am repeating some else post. IMO if the US national team wants to have future success and stay on par with the Asian countries they need a drastic change. My recommendation would be to employ a European based coach from Spain, Portugal, Italy, France or Germany. Enough of the Scandinavian and British coaches. Follow suit with what the mens side is doing change staff top to bottom. Restart the recruiting process and build from the ground up. Same faces every year and a lot of politics behind all the selections. You could literally find a European coach with zero ties to USA and no political influence. You would probably have to steal him from the mens side and you would definitely have to over pay him. But in the end it would be well worth it.

Trying to be something other than who we are is not exactly the right way to go either.
