How on earth has Empire United got GDA status? Those scores from this past week end are horrific!! Those scores being posted online for GDA is not very good marketing for US Soccer...

Word was all Empire kids on waivers had finally come back to make them stronger from fall. Guess Nefc smashed that theory.

Who the heck is clamoring to pay for empire united? SO much travel every single away game. No one is nearby. Just because US soccer gave them a gda does not mean they have customers for it.

How is this new news? LIFC not much better. a league is only a collection of teams. quality is a function of the Clubs. The LIFC thing is worse becasue that area already has teams. Empire seems like a geographic choice.

I I were the USSF I would cut the bottom 10 pct for the first X years until the landscape became competitive. they cut teams on the boys side all the time. I think you will see the same on the girls. Empire LIFC will lose status at the end of the one year cycle

Empire was definitely a geographical choice, but they did have teams, just really weak ones. USSF didn't care about the quality of the club, just wanted to plant a flag to compete with ECNL's WNY Flash.

LISC's GDA badge was originally granted to East Meadow Soccer Club, who already played in ECNL. EMSC decided to forego GDA and just play ECNL, and "bestowed" ( that's the official wording used by LISC on how they obtained GDA) their GDA designation to a local supplemental training organization called Rough Riders, whose heyday was late '90's-early 2000's prior to the launch of ECNL and NPL. Now Rough Riders basically just holds training sessions once a month and comprises tournament teams (low level tournaments) made up of local town team players looking for a little something extra. Which is fine, my own kid played Rough Riders when she was U7-U8 (currently U15), it was good training wheels before she left her town team for a more competitive, training focused club.

Problem was, Rough Riders didn't actual have teams and their not impressive reputation among kids older than 10 certainly wasn't going to attract any GDA level players, so they changed the name to Long Island Soccer Club and tried to present it as a new entity. So in an attempt to form teams, LISC sent out dozens of email blasts to former customers (including my kid who hadn't played for their organization for 7 years) inviting them to "join", (not try out for, join) their new GDA club.

When that didn't work out, LISC got into bed with Brentwood, a local NPL club that can't even field a team in every age group and borrows players from another local club-Atletico, in order to stay in NPL. Why on earth they would choose a club that couldn't even field teams for NPL as a feeder to GDA, was beyond anyone. Then LISC tapped another local NPL club-Massapequa as another feeder. Neither one of these clubs were top performers in NPL, a few strong teams here and there but not enough to form a competitive academy.

Add all that to the fact that not only were many of these kids not qualified to play on the GDA level, they didn't WANT to, but we're getting pressured by their "home" clubs to do so. All while still competing in NPL and playing on school teams. Not to mention, the brain trusts from these 3 organizations played mix and match each week between their NPL and GDA rosters, so no 2 game day rosters were ever the same...SMH. The whole thing is really just such a shame.

The shame is the complete lack of oversight from us soccer. Is playing in the gda going to mean what they claim or not? If they allow this to continue, the answer is not.

It has not lived up to the hype at ANY level.
Look at NEFC and STARS DA
Coaching? Same. Although stars tried to stick a couple of low level coaches in during the fall, didn't work, and JD had to take over
Training, and I mean all aspects, content, players and frequency? Same. NEFC kids still training with best players at the club. Stars DA is not the best players in the club, only a few, and the NT players who for now don't dare rock the boat so close to world cup rosters coming out. Training was a joke in the fall, but now DA has trimmed the roster and they train with ECNL, so same.
Matches. Definitely NOT the same. Stars does not have a good team, especially when NT players aren't there, but still beat most teams in NE. NEFC has a good team with best players from oldest year classes, but has no one to play. They will not play a meaningful game until playoffs.
How can USSF say this is better or good for youth soccer. It's really a disgrace what they have done.
