Why? That should be the group MLS clubs want to keep the most. Getting rid of U13 and 14 makes more sense. I don't see USSF going for that - it would sink the non MLS clubs.

I would be not. At 17 or 18, go pro or go to college. Anyone left has likely missed the boat .... no more chances.

Another difference of need for USSF vs MLS ..... I dont think MLS cares anymore what is good or bad for USSF. MLS is now looking out for #1 and there are plenty of places that USSF hampers them from developing top players (and getting paid for doing so).

Why would it sink non-MLS clubs? MLS DA clubs already segregated themselves so there are very few games with non-MLS teams.

MLS teams want players that strive to be professionals. The U19 players are primarily trying to get recruited by colleges. Cut them all loose. Only invest in players that choose to forego college. It makes perfect sense.

If you want to go to college you can play for a non-MLS club.

If your child plays U15 or below you’ll be looking for a new team by recruiting time.

Oh they definitely don't care about USSF. They may as well stop the charade and be done with it.

Here’s the new pathway: Revs DA > Homegrown > USL2 loan > Revolution II USL > 1st Team

They are no longer investing money in players interested in building resumes for their college applications.

Dropping the U19 team is honestly the smartest thing they could do. If you aren’t a Homegrown by 17 then they are done spending money on you.

There’s a new sheriff in town and the changes are already being felt. Buckle up.

100%. The ROI is simply not there for U19.

Lots of Bolts kids are going to lose roster spots next year then.

All MLS should be about developing professionals. Promoting college is a conflict of interest.

Hey don't let Chads family in on that. Everything in America is for sale and not for talent.

In theory, sure. But most of the players MLS is developing 1) aren't good enough to go pro 2) don't want to go pro. College is a reality here. High level players have opportunities to play in college at a good discount, while going pro carries heaps of uncertainty and lousy rookie pay. If MLS splits off on their own they still have to grapple with those conflicting interests for many of their players

When the US sees the development of full time academies that combine school with soccer and has training (of some kind) every day and maybe twice a day (fitness and soccer) then you will start to see real development. The IMG academy had made such an attempt but failed to sustain it with any great success. Americans simply don't buy into for soccer. Until that time, college will be the direction in more than 99.9% of youth players.
